I do not think the jets will suspend him.(this year) http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/12/04/AR2008120403919.html This is believed to be Ellis' first offense, which means he won't be suspended by the league, but will be enrolled in the league's substance abuse program. Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said in a statement that he and coach Eric Mangini both spoke to Ellis about the incident. "He is disappointed with himself and has apologized for his actions," Tannenbaum said. "Personal conduct is important and an area that we stress to the entire organization. Shaun has been a leader on this team and I am confident that he will handle this in the appropriate fashion. The legal process will run its course and the league will handle this matter."
For what? The Marijuana law is fucking retarded. Might as well suspend players for speeding and parking tickets, too.
I couldn't give a rats ass about him smoking weed but he should be suspended just for the utter stupidity of his actions. I will never understand how in the world these multi million dollar athletes continue to get caught with drugs on them or DWIs. They have so much money, for gods sake pay someone to carry it for you and drive you around.
He won't get suspended this time but he will get tested 10 or 12 times a year now so his drug days are behind him or his career is...his choice.
We finally get some much needed street cred. I'm sick of the vikings, bengals, g-girls getting all the pub. It's about time we put the 'mangini chior boys' image to bed. Tree? eh. not as good as bouncing a stripper's head off the stage or breaking out a party barge full of ho's but i'll take it. Don't fuck wid da jets. we bad.
Between Buress and Ellis this should send a clear message that we need to decriminalize pot and let people carry concealed weapons anywhere in the USA, even if they don't know what a safety is. I can tolerate the supression of individual liberty, I draw the line on impacting the performance of NFL teams.
IMO, what Ellis did tippifies why we lost last Sunday. He got picked up Saturday morning. So, he was out very late a day and a half before the game gettin' wasted; really makes a lot of sense Ellis. When he had to break the news to the Jets organization sometime on Saturday and then it would have permeated the team locker room. What happened was a major distraction from a team leader very close to a game. It carried over to poor play on the field. Ellis's play has fallen off a bit. The real question is who was he out with the night before?????? More players from the Jets?????? Do we have multiple stoners on the team???? I hope not; not with potential playoffs looming. I swear if we lose in SF this weekend it is time to start feeling sick.
^There definitely could have been some carry over effect from him getting arrested on Saturday during the game. Something similar happened to us in 2002 when we played the Bears.
Thats what I am thinking. If it had happened earlier in the week everyone may have had time to geet their heads on straight before the game. It was way too much of a distraction with the game so close.
^Especially considering Ellis is a team captain and the longest tenured player on the Jets. I have to admit, I'm a little surprised by this though
