Harder than playing the toughest schedule in the league and beating a Mediocre Redskin team that's arguably better than any team in our division.
I don't know, sometimes I think all the media attention fuels the Giants as they embrace the underdog role. The Giants have been receiving a lot of positive press since their schedule got hard (which makes sense because it's hard to praise a team that slaps around Seattle and San Francisco...unless they're the Cowboys). Shaun O'Hara actually said the team knew that people respected them and were talking them up. His comment was "We know people are complimenting us. We see the smoke swirling everywhere. We have to be like Bill Clintonn and not inhale." I think this just backs my belief that good leadership and good coaching should allow a team to function as though there was no press at all. I won't say the Giants didn't fly under the radar a bit, but they've been in the spotlight for at least the past month and haven't shown any negative impacts of this (knock on wood).
Yup. No other way around. *Wait a minute. I pointed that one out too in one of my previous postings.*
Why don't you post at bigblue.com? We know you are a giant fan and to say that redskin team might be the best if they were in our division is ludicrous. They had a nice start but have been mediocre to bad since. They MIGHT be able to beat out Buf for 3rd place, that's about it. The Giants sched looks tougher on paper than it actually is. Baltimore is a paper tiger, Pitt was beat up when they played them, Dallas was beat up, philly is nothing, Washington is nothing, we humiliated Arizona they played a close game w/ them. That's not taking anything away from teh Giants who clearly look like the best team but let's not go crazy w/ the difficult sched which really isn't that difficult. As far as Washington they have lost 3 of 4 w/ their lone win a 3 point win over Seattle and they are 3-4 in their last 7 w/ the 3 wins being a 3 pt win over 4-8 Cleveland, an 8 pt win over 0-12 Detroit and a 3 pt win over 2-10 Seattle. yeah they'd easily march through our division. That is my point, they feed off that "lack of respect" angle and when they were ignored after we got Favre that helped them. Typo. I try to type faster than I should and when trying to spell mediocre many times I screw it up. My posts generally have alot of typos though I am great speller.
Aren't you the same guy who said last year that we had the same talent as the Giants. The NFC East teams, every one of them are rated in the top 10 in Defense in yards given up per game there isn't a team in the NFC east right now that you can't argue is as good or better than every team in the AFC East based on O and D stats. Obvioulsy since I like and root for the Giants and you hate them with a passion you are clearly more objective about them. Fact is right now they are the best team in football which come playoff time means very little because a healthy Dallas team may well keep them out of the SB? Right now they are the SB champs and the clear best team in football playing consistently well on both sides of the ball almost every game. The JETS, PATS, Bills and Dolphins have been anything but consistent powerhouse teams. They have shown flashes but for the most part rarely compete at a high level game in and game out. The Redskins are pretty similiar to all 4 AFC East teams except when healthy they have both the running game and the deep threat and their D is as good as any team in our division.
Our talent level isn't that far behind the Giants. The Redkins and Cowboys lost to the Rams, The Eagles tied the bengals. The NFC East teams outside of the Giants aren't very good. Dalls is when healthy as is philly but neither has been healthy. I never said the giants weren't the best team in football. I can't be objective b/c I hare the Giants but you are objective b/c you love them? How does that work exactly? You portray yourself as a Jet fan but you clearly are not. Why have you been a phony? Why not just come clean?
Of course the Jets talent isn't far behind the Giants this year. It was last year that you made the argument that the Jets were just as talented as the Giants going into the game with the Giants. The Jets talent this year is far better than the Jets talent last year.
Going into that game the Giants were still largely unproven and the Jets were coming off a playoff season. The Jets were ahead late in the 3rd quarter, too, one or two plays changed the game. It's not like it was a blowout because they were so much better. I'd say most NFL teams talent levels aren't far from one another, generally speaking. Obviously the Giants and Jets seasons went in opposite directions after that game, but hindsight is always 20/20.
The Giants were a much more talented team than us going into that game not comparable on both lines, running back and WR not to mention the talent of the QB but as yet unproven. The fact that you and Junc didn't see it because you were blinded by your hate of them is where the hindsight is 20/20. I said at the time there was no comparison in talent and Junc made the argument that the Jets were easily as talented as the Giants last year. It's hard to be objective when you hate the other team. I recognize that I usually underestimate the Pats because I want them to fail. I like and root for the Giants so I don't want to see them fail unless they are playing the Jets.
You're just like champ, an expert on everything after it happens. Also, I don't hate the Giants now that Tiki, Shockey and Strahan are gone.
I not only post my pridecitions before they happen, unlike you, I'm often correct. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=10609 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=24268 http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=35088
First of all I don't really make predictions on here. Secondly, if you ramble on with an essay to begin each season you're bound to get a few things right and a few wrong, as you did.
You are a Giant homer what would you expect? No rational fan could have predicted the Giants would have done what they did. Eli was nothing more than a mediocre QB at this time a year ago. Burress was ultra talented but never showed up in big games and was inconsistent. The Giants are great b/c of the 2 lines and the Giant D's of the past led by Strahan were always chokers. I recognized the greatness of the Pats a long time ago, I recognize the Giants are really good. I can see through my hate. The Giants at that point had proven nothing.
I don't think that really does prove your point. Negative media attention is not the same as no media attention. If, going by what you originally said, it helps not to have the media spotlight than every team not getting a lot of press should do well. Negative media attention is far different and some teams (like last year's Cowboys) don't handle it well. If anything, the fact that the Giants have played consistently good football while receiving negative, non-existent, and positive media attention proves MY point; well-coached teams with good leadership will produce regardless of whatever the media chooses to see, ignore, praise, or damn.
Your avatar goes perfectly with a line like that, that's exactly the kind of approach Parcells would take.
As much as I liked Chad, his pick in the end zone cost us that game. Again, if the Giants had beaten us 28-0 or something he would have a point, but that's not what happened and that wasn't even a good Jets team as it turned out.
I don't want to get into an argument on the relative strengths of schedule, but I think your appraisal of that schedule is off. The Ravens are much better than a paper tiger. They have a talented defense that is very aggressive and physical and an offense that is one of the greater surprises in the entire NFL this season. Pitt did have injuries, this is true. But if you want to play the injury card you have to keep in mind that the Giants have been without Umenyiora the entire season. Roethliserger was pressure mightily that game, and it could have been worse. Philly is far from nothing, as is Washington. Look at the stats and you'll see that these teams can play. Philly gets QB pressure like nobody's business and Wash has one of the better secondaries in the NFL. Westbrook could be the best all-around back in the league (arguably) and Portis is having an MVP type year. Arizona is an excellent team at home. This is the key to understanding them. Outside of the dome they get rocked by the Jets and Philly, but inside at home they played a good game against the Giants (who lacked Burress and Jacobs that game). The Cowboys were banged up and that win is the least impressive. However they are still a division rival, still had a healthy OL and Marion Barber, and have a very talented from 7 on defense. The Giants have one of the toughest schedules in the league this year, and I think it's just wrong to look at it otherwise. I know there is some homerism in there on my part, but I have done my best to use logic and facts to combat this.
