bad coaching?? since mangini has been here none of DE conversions have not been good. bryan thomas did good in 06 and since then slacked. what if he is not beening taught the postion good. something tells me if NE picked him he would be stud.....(EDIT) IM NOT TALKING ABOUT MANGINI..our linebackers coach or who ever works with him)
Interesting point. Great defenses have great coaching staffs. Teaching often does not fall on the shoulders of the HC, or even the DC. Those guys may have the plan but they are not "teachers". I allude to The Bucs of the latter Dungy years, they had Herm, Tomlin (DBs aft Herm) Marinelli, Lovie Smith and Joe Barry as coaches (teachers) to the young talent like D Abraham, B Kelly, Lynch, R Barber, Sapp, Brooks etc. This is where the day in day out learning takes place. Good Point what do the Jets have?
yeah and the field is too green to much chlorine in the water come on mangini cant take blame for everything as far as thomas and gholston i have fear that both lack passion for the game thomas spends alot of time in my home town and the word i here is that he is not intense in offseason and when he got his contract does not continue to progress both workout warriors does not shine over to fielt
You can't coach speed and he seems slow as shit. You also can't coach fitness and he looks fat too. He would be a bust wherever he went and that's just what happens when you give some people a lot of money up front.
I don't think it's bad coaching...David Harris seemed to do pretty damn well his first year...At this level, if you don't know the basics, then you should just go home. And I don't think this guy knows the basics. You can say what you want about him playing DE in college, and not knowing the roles/coverage of an OLB...But when the play is to rush the QB from the outside, you rush the QB. It doesn't get much simpler than that. My other question is his speed...I have noticed, as has anyone else with two eyes, that he cannot run anyone down from behind, or in front for that matter. How does something as simple as speed get overlooked? These guys are prodded and poked in the combine...Does someone actually think he's gotten slower?? I really don't understand that? It really looks like the guy is running 5.0 40yd times out there....maybe he's hurt? Who knows? And I know I'm opening myself up to the people on this board who want to "give him a year to develop", and "he's only a rookie playing out of position". I stand by my theory, that you either GOT IT, or you DON'T. Might be time to look at the LB position again in the 2nd round this year.
In todays world of free agency, I think its a bad decision by management to draft a "project" with the 6th pick. This guy may become a player by the 2nd or 3rd year? I am not very optimistic that this project will work, hopefully I am wrong. Certainly would be nice to have someone making an impact this year with that pick.
None of the DE conversions have not been good? So they've all been good? Thomas had a career year in '06, and was doing great this year before Harris went out. What about Bowens? How many rookies have done well under this CS? D'Brick Mangold Washington B. Smith Harris Revis Stuckey Keller Lowery Is that due to good coaching?
lol...someone sitting home posting crap on a message board is actually calling someone else fat and out of shape? You're a piece of work. Some days I think you're related to champ considering the worthless drivel you post.
If you really watch him, like on a kickoff......specifically when he has to change direction...you can just see that he's not a good athelete. You watch Mayo on the Pats and you see him always near the ball. Call it what you like...Speed, Athletisism, Instinct, Court sense in basketball.. This guy just doesn't have it. Now, I was completely wrong in the Thomas Jones sucks thread, so maybe someone will flip a switch with this guy one day. Right now though it doesn't look good..
I'm just happy LT has offered to help the kid. I assume that is still the case? Anyone hear anything about this lately?
On the other side of this, do you mean we have to be pro athletes or in great shape to post? No criticism allowed? That would really quiet this place down.
B. Smith (QB -> WR) Bowens (DE -> OLB -> ILB) Thomas (DE -> OLB) They've all had success changing positions under the current CS.
We have to be mini Shakespeares to post here. Hark! Thouest hath lost thy Bronco game in sucktaceous fashion. Alas, the Niners beckon.
Sometimes, transitions just take time. I believe that is the only excuse that is valid. Fact is, Bryan Thomas has played very well this year and kept Gholston off the field. It took Mario Williams time to transition to the NFL and now he is one of the most dominant defense players in the game. Also, when Gholston arrived at Ohio State as a freshman, he struggled, as well, with the transition from HS to college. Give Gholston time and we'll see in two years whether the pick worked out.
how many yards, rec, TD's does b.smith have again? bowens 3rd string at best. and thomas had one good year and that was 06...he has 4.5 sacks now..theres are alot of players who got 3 sacks in a game i get your point tho....but im TALKING ABOUT THE PERSON WHO WORKS WITH GHOLSTON
