Rumor on the Ole Miss fanboards I post on that Nutt might be in talks with Auburn. I think that much is BS, however, apparently there were meetings this morning Tuberville was not included in. As per bleacher report blog: ommy Tuberville left the thumping of his team in Tuscaloosa a confident man. Now, on Wednesday, that confidence is wavering. Athletic Director Jay Jacobs has not publicly said a word as of yet and meetings are still going on between Jacobs, big boosters and other administration personnel. Tuberville was not included in these meetings. That in itself may say a lot. In times like these rumors are rampant, and the only thing you can do is to piece to good ones together as best you can. Therefore, in order of no reliability, I've taken a look at what sources are saying. Boosters want Tuberville gone and are convincing Jacobs that they can come up with the buyout money. Jacobs is hesitant because of the buyout. There are secret negations between Tuberville's agent and the school about differing buyout scenarios. Tommy would be ok to walk away with less cash, if they wouldn't deduct any new salary he would earn from the buyout. He would take $4million and leave with that arrangement, or they could pay him $6million and he'd sit home and watch TV or hunt. There has been "A Big Name" that came up as willing to come to Auburn that wasn't there a week ago and Auburn is feeling that out before committing to Tuberville. In the interim, Tuberville has another job lined up as is wanting out, but he has to make it look like it was all Auburn's idea to get rid of him. He wants to take as much cash with him as he can first, then get the new salary too! He's been miffed with the Auburn ever since the "Jet Gate" scandal. I guess we'll all find out soon what happens, but we may never know the real reasons or the gamesmanship that made it all play out the way it did. Not until Tommy publishes his tell-all book. bleacherreport.com/articles/88565-auburn-tommy-tuberville-decision-still-up-in-the-air
I'm sorry, I wasn't aware the Jets were also the only valid subject matter in a forum section entitled NCAA.
85-40 Overall record at Auburn.. 8 bowl appearences.. 5 wins (1 undefeated season..) first losing season since 1999. I think this is a bad move for Auburn, they have had some top recruiting classes lately.. And now... after firing their OC midseason, Auburn needs to hope they don't lose some to recruits to Tennessee.. And other top programs.. they better make the right hire.. and quickly.
He beat Florida two years in a row. He had an undefeated season as you mentioned... That's a pretty impressive resume. Unless they can get Leach...I doubt they can upgrade from the decent Tommy.
Speaking of Auburn decommits: 4* DE Montez Robinson has decommitted. 4* DE Terrance Coleman has decommitted. 3* S David Connor has decommitted.
I truly find the situation in the SEC amazing this year only because Tuberville shouldn't have been run out. Nick Saban said to reporters tonight, "Now we know that we were only 5-7 away from the same thing." We've got two openings as of today, with big names circulating for both. Lots of drama with Petrino and Auburn unfolding as his contract has a no sec west clause. This is making college football look more and more like the big business pro league. This is going to be a fun off season.
It would have cost $5-6 million to buy out Tub's contract, depending on your source. So they negotiated a deal where Tub resigns, thus leaving the school owing him nothing, in exchange for a private settlement with prominent alumni in which they agree to pay him $5 million. Its insane that alumni would hate a coach so much as to pay the buyout money themselves. For example, I hate Mangini, but I'm not putting a penny into any buyout for him. But what makes it even more insane is that Tub is actually a good coach, went undefeated in '04 and was named coach of the year. These Auburn boosters are going to kill their own team.
It appears to be a done deal now. Auburn has hired Gene Chizek from Iowa State to replace him. He ahs only won 5 games in 2 years, but was the DC for the undefeated Auburn squad.
