    One less game would help.

Yea it would. Home games would be nice too. One way or the other the Jets are going to have to beat a couple of solid teams to get to where they need to be though. They really might have squandered the 2nd seed this past week but they should still be capable of getting themselves a home game for the WC match.

Umm, maybe it will help if you think about it this way: besides home field in divisional round, you can think of the #2 seed is basically equivalent to an automatic win in the wild card round, without even having to play. Plus all the rest and healing, etc.

You would agree the equivalent of a free guaranteed W without even having to play is something to at least "care" about, I hope?

It doesn't really matter whether we creep into the playoffs or not. Mangini will see to it that we don't get past the first game anyway. He has proven his total ignorance in both the Oakland and Denver games now and any team we meet in the playoffs will only be better.

Look at the AFC records right now, is there a matchup you like?

Right now, because of our pass D and lack of a consistent pass rush, we are probably going to be the weakest team going into the playoffs, if we make it.

The AFC playoff teams are going to be damn strong this season. Tenn, Pitt, NE, Indy, NYJ (hopefully), and Denver.

Every one of those teams can kill us. We can beat them too, but if that's the playoff group, the Jets are the weak link because of the inability to put the same performance on the field every week, regardless of who the opponent is or what the conditions are.

The offense is still not 3-dimensional, and I think we've seen what our D is by now. We're going to have to win most of our games by scoring more points because come playoff time, our opponent(s) will be throwing 40-45 times.

That was the entire point of this thread...to be the 2 seed and to play one less game is huge.

It is way to early to worry about seeding....How about we focus on SF. This team is not good enough in any aspect of the game to look past the schedule and worry about what seed they are going to be in the playoffs. However if they can find the rhythm they had during the win streak (for the rest of the season) that would make for great momentum if they make the playoffs.

This loss cost the Jets a lot.

It cost us the chance to establish separation from the other teams that we'll be facing in the playoffs, assuming we get there. The Jets looked ready to take a step up and make themselves the team to beat in the AFC, alongside the Titans, instead of just another longshot player - which is where all but a few teams will be going into the playoffs including the Jets now.

It cost us in terms of where Mangini and his coaching staff are. We went right back to the idiots, anvils and dynamite approach that a good team (or even just a fair one like the Broncos) will demolish with regularity. Herm would have won that game on Sunday by just running Curtis Martin and then Lamont Jordan down Denver's throat until they cried uncle. Why we chose to do such braindead things is beyond me, but I've noticed that the more Mangenius commercials I see the stupider the coaching on the sidelines becomes. Maybe Mangini should just stick to coaching?

It cost the team the aura of invulnerability that it was developing over the last month+ and it wasn't injuries, a la the Chad injury in late 2004 that tore the veil away from the player's faces, it was bad coaching and poor execution.

I can make a pretty good case right now for the Jets winding up 10-6 and on the outside when all is said and done. That would never have been a possibility until they got whupped by a much worse team.

This is sad and very true. The thing that bothers me is in the playoffs not only do we face the better teams but we will be facing the better coaches as well. Shanny knew if he threw 50 times they could exploit our non existant pass rush. Im quite sure the rest of the league took notice of the blueprint to exploit our defense this past weekend.

I think it's beyond dispute that Shanahan knew what to do to win this game and Mangini did not. I realized midway through the second half that this was the third game in a row that Mangini was facing a clearly superior coach, with Belichik, then Fisher and now Shanahan. The odds on the Jets winning three in a row with a clear coaching deficit were long, and so we should have been prepared for what happened.

And the sad thing is that is what we have to do in the playoffs if we make it. I hope people don't think Parcells will not be helping sparano dissect our team before we play the Dolphins as well in the last game of the year. I think the biggest problem with Mangini is he is scared to blitz and throw the ball deep and make mistakes. In the playoffs the better coaches will take the game from us like sunday. It was raining and Shanny let Cutler throw the ball all over the place and Mangini has the reigns on Farve like he is Chad. We have taken a cannon arm and turned it into a pop gun. Screw Passer ratings I want touchdowns and points.

The biggest problem with Mangini is he doesn't have the balls to play power football with a team that clearly is capable of playing power football. The Jets are bigger and more talented than most of their opponents this year for the first time in living memory. You may have to go back to the late 60's to get a team that had this kind of size advantage on defense and probably the mid 80's for the last team that had a big size advantage on the offensive line.

Despite the advantages the Jets enjoy in the pits they're still playing a pussy short passing game and giving up on the run if they don't get 4+ yards on first down. Here's the breakdown for 1st and 2nd down run/pass for the Steelers and the Jets in the first half on Sunday:

    1st Down
    Jets 9 rushes/2 passes
    Steelers 5 rushes/5 passes

    2nd Down
    Jets 1 rush/7 passes
    Steelers 6rushes/5 passes

Now here's the kicker: in the Steelers 6 rushes on 2nd down they averaged 7.8 yards to go on 2nd down. Even though their 1st downs were not being successful on those plays they went back to the run on 2nd down. The Jets should have been doing the same thing but instead they were setting themselves up to fail.

We need to pass on more 1st downs and run on more 2nd downs. I've been saying this for the majority of the year. The opposing team knows every 1st down that we're gonna run it and we usually only get a couple yards because of that.

Not yet. Pitt has a rough schedule and we should win at least 3 maybe 4 so yeah they have an edge but not clear cut--yet.

Pretty clear to me...I don't see Pitt losing 3 of last 4.

We'll be the 3 seed. The chances of moving up to #2 are very remote at best. That said, our ideal path would be not having to play teams with elite passing games and/or TEs. That means hopefully Indy gets the 5 seed, and we never see them or Denver in the playoffs. That path would likely mean we'd have to beat Baltimore first, Pitt second, & then Tenn/Denver/Indy in the conference championship game. None of those games would be easy, but on a match-up basis, that would be our best shot.

How do you figure??? The Steelers play Dalls at home, followed by the Ttans and Ravens on the road. If we take care of our business and win out (very possible) all they have to do is lose 2 of those 3 games (also very possible). I'll tell you right now that I expect Baltimore to beat that at home as they will return the favor for losing a close, tough game in Pittsburgh earlier in the season. I also think they could EASILY lose to either the Titans in Tennessee or the Cowboys at home.

First of all, we are certainly capable of running the table and going 12-4. If we do that then Pitt only has to lose 2 of 4. Given that they play the Titans and Ravens on the road and the Cowboys at home this week, I think if we run the table (obviously a big IF - but a very possible IF) we will be the 2nd seed.

Felt this needed a bump, w/ PO scenarios swirling...Jets need to win out. That's the bottom line.
