Isn't arm strength Favre's biggest weapon? I have noticed several times this year that he has been very very poor going deep, often ending in an interception...several of them. One of them was yesterday. He didn't complete a single pass beyond 15 yards. Im not beating on Favre. Im excited about him. But I think his arm strength is his weakest point. Maybe his age has caught up to him. His deep balls are no better than Chads, except Chad would complete most of the very few attempts. Either that, or our WRs are not up to the notch for Favre. I think we should give some time to Clowney and see how that works out. Give him the trash time when we are leading big...It may not be as beneficial, but it can't hurt can it? Anyways, what are your thoughts on Favre?
It was raining, that makes the deep ball hard to throw. I do agree that Clowney could help, he and Stuckey have young legs and good speed. Cotchery is great but doesn't have deep speed. Coles has good speed, but can be taken away by double coverage or a safety rolled over the top.
Favre's arm has looked fine on the 15 yard crossing patterns (such as Coles' TD last week), but I agree that the bombs have mostly looked terrible. The problem with sorting it out is that the receivers have not been open most of the time, but I can recall very few 25+ yard passes that haven't hung up in the air.
What about the passes he completed? He is at 68% for the year. You people like like he should be perfect..ALL QB do what he has done ones with weak arms or strong ones.
Do you know what arm strength is.. Slants is what he's one of the best ever to play the game at because he zings the ball in there.. His deep ball has never been great
Jets don't have the wr's to have an effective deep passing game. I love Cotch and Coles, they are solid, but they just don't have great speed.
His arm strength is more helpful in putting the ball into tight windows and making awkward throws off his back foot or across his body. I don't know why people can't see this. He also SHOULD have completed a deep pass to Cotch yesterday, but he failed to hold on. edit: When he see's his receivers in single coverage he's going to try and give the receiver a shot to make a play on the ball just about every time he has a chance. Yesterday he just threw it too far.
Thank you.... That why I don't come on here like I used to a lot of people on here don't know football.
U didn't get my point. His arm strength is suppose to be his asset, not liability. He doesn't have that zip this year. No ones perfect and neither is Favre. His completion percentage is actually eye-popping, but his deep balls are not better than Chads Is he a better QB than Chad? Yes But he's gotta be careful with the deep balls...only throw where the receiver can catch or don't throw. Seems to me that whenever he decides to go deep, he'll go deep regardless of the coverage. Ive seen him throw against 3 defenders with the WR being in the middle of them...no chance for WRs...And this has happened several times.
You must have not seen Brett play the last 17 years that how he plays he will just throw the ball up and let his WR try to make a play on it.
What the hell were you watching on the Coles TD at Tennessee? A rifle on one foot! He beams it to Keller, beams it on the slants...The New England game, where he throws across his body to the middle of the field to Keller...Are you kidding? His arm IS an asset, but it's also a liability with his bad INTs...But that's Favre. You gotta deal with it. He's freaking 38! The zip has been just fine...He isn't throwing any ducks on a 10 yard out or slant...Jeez.
Bottom line is his over all play we are 8-4 and in 1st of the AFC East. I didn't hear anybody saying anything over are 5 game win streak.
He's Mr. Magoo. I honestly believe he is trying to hide eyesight problems. On deep sideline passes he heaves it up to where in his mind he expects the WR to be, thats how he threw that INT to Deangelo Hall in the Raider game. And the OLine doesn't give him a lot of time and he can't scramble. There goes the deep passing game. BF is actually just like Pennington was, he can't consistently succeed with the long ball with out getting the defense fooled by play action.
Favre has arguably the strongest arm in the league. And of the strongest of all time. WTF are you smoking?
Yes he can. He's not the best at it, but he can. His bread and butter are slants that require A LOT of arm strength and zip on the ball. But he can throw the deep ball too. None of our receivers have been getting open deep though. If you watch other teams play you'll see a lot of receivers getting 5+ feet of separation on their guys all the time. Our WR's don't have that kind of speed though. They're also no Steve Smith or Randy Moss who can just catch any bomb thrown in the general vicinity.
