I see a lot of "same old Jets" threads, and I am going to put an end to that thinking right now.

First off, prior to this game, the Jets had won 5 in a row, and beaten both NE and TN in their own house. This is still that team.

Now, the reason for yesterday, as I see it, wasn't the Same Old Jets ripping off their mask. It was simply a bad game. As fans of the Jets, you don't want to hear that, but it's the truth. They simply lost a game because they played poorly. It really is as simple as that. I know that it FEELS bad, because we all got too used to winning the last 5 weeks. We started overrating our team. The higher from Earth you are, the harder the landing when you crash. That's all this is.

Look, the Jets weren't going to win out. They probably aren't going to win out there last 4 games. That doesn't mean they aren't one of the AFC's better teams. Tell me this: would you have signed up for 8-4 (3-1 in the division) at the start of the season? I sure would have.

So we head out west to play a somewhat improved SF team, and they will fight. Singletary may not be the best X's and O's guy, but he'll have his team fired up to play, and it will be a fight. And the Jets should win.

    Where? Point them out.

And if we don't win the division we probably don't make the playoffs. That is pretty bad considering where we were before yesterday's game.

It's really hard watching the Jets play the way they did and not feel some pangs of 'same old Jets', but I am still optimistic.

I am glad, if we were going to drop a game, that it was this one. Hopefully this will serve as a gut check or ego check to the team and they can focus on the basics, and get their shit together. Now is the time.

I still believe the Jets win the division, and I think they'll win it by a couple of games. I also think they take the #3 seed.

No, it's not as bad as it seems right now. We lost to a 1st place team.

Agreed with OP. This was by no means an earth shattering loss. The Jets played bad, we lost, they learn from their mistakes and move on to next week.

We don't face any strong passing attacks for the rest of the season so I'm fairly confident we'll will win out the rest of the way, with the Miami game being one of those classic fight for the division games week 17.

Playoffs are still a likely possibility...but will a loss in the wild card round or divisional game leave you feeling satisfied?

The goal is the Super Bowl, and with a few recent exceptions, it takes a first round bye to make the big game.

The hopes for a #2 seed took a major hit, and that means we're counting on Favre to play 3 really good games in the playoffs or Mangini to coach 3 really good games in the playoffs.

Nothing to be done now but make the adjustments and win in SF. God forbid they flop out there and have to come home and face the Bills who still give them a hard time.

This loss is not nearly as bad as the Bills, colts, lions losses in 1997, the lions loss in 2000, the chicago loss in 02 or the rams loss in 04.

Now if we loss to SF or Sea that would be worse.

All true George but what is bothering all us Jets fans I suspect is we got taken behind the woodshed by not a very good team who had major holes in their personnel. I will be totally gutted if the Jets don't make the Playoffs but how far we can go is the lap of the gods. A wake up call for me and many others who started looking at accomodation in Tampa for late January.

We are 8-4, one game ahead of the Pats & Dolphins for 1st place with 4 games to go. I am happy as shit. Yesterday was one of those games, what are you gonna do? We caught a break with the Pats losing. With the Dolphins schedule, its gonna come down to the last game of the year. Get ready to be flexed to 8pm for that one. Are all the pussy's that did not show up yesterday gonna be able to leave the house in the dark to attend? Jet fans embarassed themselves yesterday... or I should say the pussies that did not show up and for those that did.... it was one horrible day from the weather to the game but the football gods will pay us back one day... hopefully soon

I know you said recent but I'm looking at two recent example of teams that won the Super Bowl without having a 1st round bye..... that would be the Steelers and the Giants. I know for a fact the Giants won all 3 games on the road then beat the "greatest team ever*" in the Super Bowl. I want to say the Steelers won all 3 games on the road as well but I do remember that 1st round game against the Bengals being in Cinci....

This isn't as bad as everybody is making it out to be.... the Pats still lost and the Steelers have games against the Ravens, Cowboys and Titans remaining. They will likely lose to the Cowboys and I'd be willing to bet they lose to either the Ravens or Titans. We still control our own destiny with the division and at least one home game maybe two. We were never going to catch the Titans for that 1st spot and anybody who thought we would win 10 straight going into the playoffs was delusional. It's good that we got this out of the way as the next 4 should be games we win. Even 3-1 in the next 4 gives us 11 wins and a likely division title.

You're correct - the Steelers also won three road games on their way to (winning) the Super Bowl. That's 2 of the last 3 postseasons, and in the third (2006) Indianapolis did not have a first round bye, won a playoff game in Baltimore, and beat a team with a better record in the Super Bowl. Over the last five postseasons the home team has won 62% of the games; in the previous five postseasons the home team had won 76% of the games.

It used to be that the demonstrably "better" teams won a lot of the time, but that seems less true now (even in the Super Bowl: in 30 of the first 35 post-merger Super Bowls the team that won had a better or equal record to the team that lost, while the team with the worse record has won the last three Super Bowls).

interesting. I guess its about who gets hot in January and that one day in February.

Then let the Jets reset and get hot again at the right time.

It's still better to be at home, of course, but I used to believe that playing on Wild Card weekend was a recipe for ultimate failure (even if you were a division winner). When you see that the last three Super Bowl winners have all played that first weekend, however, you have to say that it no longer seems to be the case.

As far as the Super Bowl goes, if last year didn't prove that anything can happen in that game, nothing will.

Wait, so it OK not to flip flop between each win and loss, preaching about SB dreams or typical meltdowns? I don' t think I'm ready yet.:jets:

Thanks to the Steelers,we are still in 1st with destiny in our hands. If the Jets end up the #2 seed,it's because they deserved it. If they end up #3,it's because they deserved it. if they screw up and miss the playoffs, they earned it.
I still think the 1st Denver TD yesterday was bullshit! And it set the tone for the game. But what can you do?
