Because he's probably not good enough and lacks desire. Last week he seemed to have a load in his pants while trying to run down old man Collins.
The guy just looks like he has no drive, or maybe it's confidence(?), out there. It's almost as though he fell out of a plane after living on a deserted island for his entire life, and was asked to play in a football game. Totally lost and impotent. How can this be the same guy who terrorized and at times dominated some of the best offenses in college football last year?
What makes his inability to catch Cutler even sadder is that despite all the media hype to the contrary, Cutler isn't all that mobile. He does throw well on the run, but he does not run fast.
Guys, lets stay positive. It's a good sign that he got meaningful snaps today, or it just that means that Bryan Thomas has been sucking huge donkey dick but either way, i could see him starting to make more of an impact Keep the faith. He's still learning his new position. Next year will be his year to really show us what he can do
Gholston CAN'T be this bad...can he? at this point in the season, i figured he would at least pick up the defensive schemes in spot duty, and be somewhat productive....he's been atrocious. It's to the point where i don't want to see how bad he is on the field...let him ride the pine till next season.
I've said it before and I'll say it again- While loaded with potential, at this point Gholston is the worst football player on our 53 man roster.... The kid simply has NO instincts, NO technique, NO football speed (very different than track speed), and I hate to speculate on something like this- but it seems like he just doesn't have any fire or drive... He's really a sad case to watch... So far
Vernon Gholston = COLOSSAL BUST, seriously. This guy should be lucky to make the team in '09. Unfortunately, he'll make it because of his draft status. The guy is easily one of the worst NFL players I've ever seen.
On the last play of last weeks game against the Titans...V.Gholston tries to rush the passer...he is blocked and he falls on his ass...the problem was the player who hit him is 214 lb Titans RB Quinton Ganther! I have watched that play a couple of times since then hoping it was just some rookie mistake & shit happens but after today....we may have to cut our losses...he is beggining to look like he has bust written all over him...
When he had Cutler out in open field, I couldn't believe what I was seeing. He looked like a fat middle-schooler running laps. I decided early on to wait until next season before I label him a bust. I'm thinking that was very generous of me.
I think it might be an issue that fans and the media become overly focused on certain players and that artificial value might more incline front offices to pick up on a kid with great measureables who could bust, then to pass and watch him become great elsewhere. I didn't expect anything more than situational pass rushing duties from the kid this year, but he hasn't even got that. You can remain as positive as you'd like and give him all the excuses in the world. Maybe he'll develop like Mario Williams did, hell Rich Gannon didn't accomplish anything for 10 years. At the end of the day only time will tell. For the moment though, I would say that you haven't got who you thought you were getting.
lol i wonder if all of you calling this kid a bust b4 his second year is up are also the same ones who were bitching on the thomas jones is a bum thread. i get it, we lost, everyone is upset and u want to blame someone. but seriously, gholston? he hasnt had much pt and its his first year, take deep breaths and relax.
Reminds me of a player that I went to College with....Tony Mandarich, remember him? Gholston has similar bust potential. I have a bad feeling that his name is going to live in infamy with Jet fans for a long time.
There was a play late in the 3rd qtr (I think) where Cutler took a drop back and fired to his right. Gholston just completely looked lost. First off he seemed to want to go after QB pursuit, then changed his mind and dropped back into coverage getting caught all on his own and not involved in anything. I'm sure with the right coaching this kid will come good, don't give up on him yet.
He also completely abused Jake Long only 1 year ago, now Gholston does nothing and Long is making a Probowl run. Cutler is a mobile QB, he?s faster than he looks. He had Football speed last year. He also had a great bullrush and a nice rip. Everyone, look at the Vid in my sic, this is not like we drafted a bum, this Kid can (or could) play, but watching him on the field this year has nothing to do with the player he was last year. He?s completely missing any power, strength, quickness and agressiveness, those are the things that made him a force in College, where did all that go? He was also labled a workoutwarrior, but maybe he just stopped working his ass off after signing that Deal. I still have faith, that our CS will sort things out, and he?ll be valuable player next year. It?s too early to call him a bust.
many young defensive players are so amped to make a play they 'over pursue' and take themselves right out of the play. to his credit, VG will never have this problem. he stays in his lane because he's too slow to get out of it even if he wanted to.
I don't know what your prediction was based on considering the Broncos have one of the best OL's as far as not giving up sacks.
I agree with you completely. He looks to have a completely different body then he had his last year in college. I remember after the draft they interviewed him and he looked so fat and out of shape. I think it's going to take a hardcore offseason program to get him back to where he was in college.
