I shouldn't even have to explain this but whatever.. here's what they wanted to challenge on those two plays. 1.) Cotchery play: Challenge possession of the ball (in this case who recovered the fumble) 2.) Jones play: Challenge whether he was down by contact. #1 you're not allowed to do, but #2 you're allowed to. It's as simple as that. If you were capable of registering to this forum you're capable of grasping that.
agreed. maybe Cotchery should've held on in the first place. he would've gained a TON of yards if he was able to hold on

The challenge wasn't about who recovered the fumble, but if he did fumble.
well my 12 year old niece called me tonight to tell me she now know why her uncle is a drunk thanks jets
I've seen plenty of plays challenged with regards as to whether or not they are fumbles. Unless of course, the whistle blows and the play is ruled dead, which did not happen in that case. I still think the Refs screwed up and should have allowed the Challenge, but even if allowed, it would not have changed a thing.
Cotchery was down on it and it took a diving Bronco player to knock the ball out and put it back into play. That isnt allowed and at the very worst the refs should have called it as a loss of 7-8 yds so that way Denver can be able to challenge or not and you'd actually get a legit review of the play as opposed to saying its not reviewable. Refs looked like they had no idea what the hell was going on and that is unacceptable.
I'll say this. Possession of the ball should be reviewable. If it was then none of us would be arguing about this.
He never covered the fumble, he was on top of the ball but never had possesion of the ball. It was a good call he wasn't down by contact he didn't have possesion.
i agree with ubers comment...but i do agree with the fact that your saying we should have been allowed to challenge it...the ref said we couldnt challenge the call of a fumble...since when!?!? teams challenge fumble calls all the time....that made noooo sense
As disgusting as this game was, we are 8 and 4 three quarters of the way through the season.....Most of us would have taken that when the season began.... Jets are still in first and they have a favourable schedule. Good things can still happen this season.....
In fact, if Cotchery hadn't fumbled none of us would be arguing about this. It's a pointless argument.
if Cotchery didn't fumble i think we would've won the game. he would've got a ton of yards on the play and we probably would've scored at least a FG. instead they get 7 pts. 10 or 14 pt switch right there. oh well, hopefully stff like this doesn't happen during the playoffs.
A player on the ground with the ball can't fumble. The only way the ball comes out is because the Bronco player jumped on Cotchery and punched it out - watch it again. That play is no different than any other play when you are determining whether a player lost the ball before he was down. Cotchery was lying on the ground cradlling the ball and the Bronco defender jumped on top and knocked the ball away. I watched it over and over and I don't see how anyone can think that Cotchery didn't fall down and bring the ball into his body with his hands. At that point, he is down when touched. When Royal fumbled the punt, the Jet defenders should have done the same thing - jumped on him and tried to punch the ball out. If there is no possession once a player fumbles once, then knock the ball out when he is on the ground. Not only is it a fumble, but its not even reviewable (according to this crew, who had more picked up flags and bad calls than any crew I've seen in a while).
Great point. I was thinking the same thing. The combination of stupid mistakes and a terrible call that killed our momentum (In the pats' game it was the offensive pass-interference called on Cotchery), reminded me of the 1st Patriot game
I've only been around a year so I can's say much myself, except that if this was the most frustrating game you have ever seen your team play, then either this whole "same old jets" thing is blown way out of proportion, or else you are very young. I've seen many, many games more frustrating than this.
Personally I think the Jets lost because of the awful singer they had doing the national anthem and that pregame song with the Flight Crew. He totally jinxed it for us.
either way the "same old jets" things needs to go. the bad vibes aren't gonna help the team now so ppl have to forget about whatever past misfortune's happened to them. so far this season we've been more fortunate than a lot of teams so there's no reason to complain and say "same old jets".
