This is a tad mean ethically, but a brilliant business move. Get a 2nd and 7th for him and then draft someone in the late 1st round (that means there is a trade up:wink He would be worth a lot to a team like the Bengals.
This sounds very familiar... a lot like what used to be said about Curtis Martin... to slow, can't create his own yards... yadda yadda... Yet now here in NY he's known by names as "Warrior" and "Work Horse" and others of that jist... Hate to tell ya, but he's good.. very very good. He needs to get the ball 20 to 25 times a game. It would be easier to just admit that you were wrong in your assesment of TJ's talent and skill set
Yea, I felt bad typing it. I think Mangini/Tanny will let him get another year anyway. Theres no need for the organization to be making prick moves to a guy like Jones. He's played hard for us. But if that deal came around....shiiiiieeeeeeeeeeet. If we get it from the Bengals we might only miss the first round by a few picks too.
Would you rather they'd have drafted McFadden instead of The Ghost?? I would have based on what I've seen of McFadden's play and the lack thereof with The Ghost.
Cman, you're smarter than this. This reeks of political hatred on your part. It is very... VERY simple. Pace = doing his job very well. Thomas = doing his job very well. Gholston = doesn't need to play... hence, NOT playing. Wait until Gholston is called upon before we label him a total boob. Further, unless for some reason you are against the Pace acquisition in hindsight, just consider how much of a "bust" Pace was when he started playing with the Cardinals, and he actually had to play! Now look at him.
Woah.. Politics had nothing to do with this Edge.. My point is, If McFadden was still available at 6, I would have preferred we'd drafted him instead of The Ghost. As luck would have it, the Faders drafted Big Mac at 5. Thomas has been damn near invisible over the last few games after a really fast start but still I don't see The Ghost getting on the field . Hence, I don't see any reason why the Jets should have passed on McFadden were he available. Besides Edge, my guy won! I've no reason to hate anybody..
You missed my point... I wasn't saying this was political... more pointing out that your jabs at Gholston come across as "partisan" (in a sports kind of context) when the truth is it is completely unfounded at this point. I don't have a problem with you rather having McFadden... I just have a problem with the overall Gholston hate.
Aaahhhh.. Check!!! Remind me that political season is over every now and then ok? BTW, I don't hate The Ghost, but so far, he's not made the most of his limited playing time. In a eerie sense, he's reminding me of BT when Thomas first got here. If the Jets had known that his transition would have this level of difficulty, do you really think they would have taken him at 6? Edge, the guy came in a high 1st rder and hasn't lived up. Heck, we haven't even seen his potential yet man. Hate? too strong. Dissapointment? absolutely.. Now, to relate this back to Jones, if the Jets had taken McFadden and Jones has the year he's having now, could you fault the Jets for trading Jones at the end of this season while his value is still high? I wouldn't. Especially if we're trying to get younger and faster teamwide...
Yeah! I was 100% against McFadden too! ... I just wanted Jonathan Stewart. =/ He contains really well and when the ball is thrown outside he pursues extremely well. He gets sealed to the outside easily, though. There are definitely good things in his game that are being ignored. I definitely expected him to be better at rushing the passer than he has been when he is in, but hey. Shit happens.
Prior to this season I thought Jones was a strong back, but agreed that it seemed he fell too much on first contact, but that hasn't been the case this year. I've seen a lot of runs from him where he's been able to break first contact and get an extra 6-7 yards, especially, and surprisingly, when going to the outisde. He's got that weird cut back move, but he runs like a horse.
The past few weeks I haven't noticed him going down easy at all. It seems like his play is elevating right along with the rest of the team as the season progresses.
