if we play a team in pre-season that we play again in regular season, we purpusfully "don't show all our cards", vanilla i believe the word to be.

so...knowing that we may (with very high certainty) face the titans AGAIN in the playoffs, which game do we play for? does this fact alter "in any way" our game plan for sunday?

plan a: go for broke to win THIS game, play every card we have in the deck. "All in" as mr winstonbiggs would demand.

or, plan b: "play to win" BUT hold back some 'good stuff' for our 2nd game in 7 or 8 weeks.

if we have 'one secret play' that's garuanteed to score 7, do we unvail it sunday to win the game, or keep it under wraps for the playoffs, even if it means losing to the titans on sunday?

Do not look beyond the game straight ahead. If you do you will most likely lose and the playoffs are not a certainty

No, you absolutely do not hold anything back in this game. You have to get to the second game before you worry about that.

HELLO? You play to win ... eh nevermind.

You always play balls to the wall and go all out every week. Unless this means playing someone that is injured (unless its playoffs) or if its a preseason game. Every win in the NFL counts just as much whether it's against a 2-8 team or a 10-0 team. We need to get to 11 wins before we start getting cute.

just a case in point, two seasons ago when we lost to the pats in the playoffs, they played us with a 4-3 D in regurlar season (not their best D), then switched to their 3-4 to beat us in the playoffs. they saved their 'best for last'.

PLAYERS are never supposed to 'look ahead', but the coaching staff absolutely must. take harris for example, playing him sunday means 'all in', but holding him out another game is 'looking ahead'. this is the kind of thing i'm talking about. take 5% off THIS game so you can add 20% to the playoff game.

You would never hold anything back in a regular season matchup just in case you play them again in the postseason.

Learn a lesson from the Giants last season: Go out there and play as hard as you can, every trick in the book.

ok, well let's focus on just harris. if playing him at 90% improves our shot at winning on sunday then we should do it, right? balls to the wall, all in, eventhough it could easily mean losing him for the rest of the season.

Oh, so you were talking about Harris' injury. Then obviously we shouldn't play him if he is not healthy and can further injure himself.

There is a big difference between leaving it all on the field and risking a players health for the remainder of the season. Harris probably isn't even close to playing in this game - he just had surgery 2 or 3 weeks ago.

In regards to holding back (other than injured guys) it would be pretty foolish, since a loss would put the division back in play, and whoever comes in 2nd in the east won't have tiebreakers on the teams in the south and north.

All or nothing here. Make the playoffs instead of trying to be coy.

You have to play every game this time of year like its your last. The reality is, teams usually only run what? 40 plays out of the playbook during a game? So, if that's true, we've barely seen the first 2 chapters in the Jets playbook. That being said, if we need new "wrinkles", I'm sure BS can come up with more than a few. Just changing personnel packages would confuse the Titans enough to buy us perhaps a surprise or two.

I think the NFL is a one week world. You can't hold your cards back for a game that might or might not happen when you're one game up on two teams with six to go.

you go with everything you have. the titans will be doing the same thing. by the time you get to the playoffs you have ran pretty much everything you will possibly run all season.

maybe you save a trick play for a big spot in the playoffs, maybe you add a wrinkle to something you have ran all season.

by the time you get to the playoffs there is enough tape for anyone to look at and get tendencies and anything else you look for in game tape. no sense in trying to hide something that will be found in another games tape.

I think if you are the Titans position, 3 games up on the team you are playing you can think about holding something back. As the dog looking to get in the race, you have to go all out.

i agree that we should do everything to win the current game, but how many times have you heard a player in the post-game presser say

"we've been working on that certain big play all year in practive and just now decided to run it for 7"

so obviously coaching staffs keep 'a lil somthin' up their sleeves for just the right time.

question is, is sunday 'the right time' or does mangini keep a lil somethin up his sleeve for the playoffs?

the fish unvailed the 'wild cat' that blew up the pats.

from a win/loss perspective, there's really no diff between playing harris to win the game then losing him for the season versus unvailing a trick play to win the game and losing it for the season as well.

if you can say "keep harris in you back pocket even if it means losing the game" the same can be said for a sure fire trick play that the team has been practicing all season but yet to unvail.

If Harris is not 100% him being on the field wouldn't guarantee us a victory. I do think the Jets will try everything and anything to get a win on Sunday and won't leave anything on the field.

Are you serious? Don't you think Harris is worth more than 1 big play in the grand scheme of things? gtfoh
