Can you post links? I've heard he didn't get along with Guillen, but I think Girardi is a much different manager than Ozzie. The first trade - from the A's - was a classic A's move, and had nothing to do with Swisher's attitude. The A's groom young players, and move them for prospects when they start to mature (i.e. cost more money).
Everything I've read about Swisher is he, A: Did not agree with Ozzie or his managerial style AT ALL; B: Plays hard, all the time, and lets his emotions get to him sometimes; And C: Is a great guy, despite. In regards to Peavy, The Padres could open negotiations with the Tokyo Giants and Orix Blue Wave, it dosen't matter. Peavy has a gull no-trade and he essentially dictates where he goes. And everything he has said and inclinated, says he does not want to be a Yankee. Now of course, he may of changed his mind since he's seen the money they're throwing around, but I have yet to see anything like that. We want big bucks, AKA. Tex looks to be out of the Yankees plans now, too. Unless he'll agree to a shorter deal, which he will not, they probly won't be in the persuit.
Links? You do realize that Peavy has stated he didn't want to play for the Yankees, or Red Sox. He's going to end up in Houston.....
I don't know why he wouldn't... unless you have doubts about your abilities or you are mentally unstabble why wouldn't you want to play for the Yankees? You know they are in all likelyhood going to overpay for you and you are going to have a legit shot to win a championship at least on paper. Certainly your odds of winning are much greater with the Mets, Yankees or Red Sox than they are with the Padres.
People keep saying here that the money would be a factor for Peavy dropping his no trade, but it wouldn't. He's signed through 2012 with a team option for 2013. He's going to stay in the NL.
I'm not sure if it's true that Peavy said he does not want to goto the Yanks or the Sox...But if it is true it's bad business for him. Why not let the big market teams drive up the value and force another team to step up their hand?
Peavy's not a free agent. He's signed with the Padres through 2012 (club option for 2013), and has a no-trade clause. It'd be the Padres who would benefit from having more suitors involved, not Peavy.
Yes, but Peavy wants the team who trades for him to sign him to a large extension. Essentially, for the team trading for him, the price for Peavy is twice as high; A) you have to give up players B) you have to pay money. That's why interest is falling off from some teams.
Yeah, I would think that disagreeing with Ozzie Guillen is a positive personality trait. Ozzie's a riot, and I love that he's in the spotlight, but that's for pure entertainment value. Dude is fucking insane.
I'm looking for confirmation on that, cause that makes things alot more complicated. I've only heard that he wants his 5th year guarenteed, 2013, $22 million bucks. If I find it I'll of course tack it up!
This kind of alludes to it. I don't remember the context of him requesting an extension while listening to 1050, it could have been in talks of going to NY, which the former quote from MLB.com confirms, but like I said, I don't remeber the context.
Peavy is an interesting guy, he really seems to care far more about where he plays than how much he makes,
Well, concidering he has a contract with a guarenteed $52 million bucks, I'd be more concerned where I played too.
If he allows a trade to NY he wants a new contract. Money soothes all afflictions. However, he is still just another NL pitcher and one who pitches in the extremely weak NL west half of the year. He could end up being another disaster in the AL east. On another note, if the money were similar I would prefer Teixiera over Sabathia any day. As important as pitching may be I don't think he will last even close to six years and people forget how he stunk in the AL last year anyway.
