ive met plenty of people who have rooted for teams for years but get off on when they lose...its wierd.....i think its because they love to complain...

What is so hard about fully outright rooting for a team without awaiting utter failure...

its like going through life saying...i would do x but y might happen...the question then is are you really living life??

i guess the question here is are you really rooting for the jets?? or just following them reservedly? because rooting involves the belief that one can win...or else what is it you are rooting for?

I watched the ones in the 90's and all the bad ones since, and yes it sucks bad and I can see why its hard to stay positive but the past is the past. Im also a die hard islander fan, so yes I feel a lot of pain in my sports life. I wont lie either, when the pats came back to tie up the game in the last seconds all those feelings come back and I immediately said to myself, here we go again. But look what happened, they pulled it out. Those jets teams of the past would not have done that, they would have crumbled.

I don't give a fuck about what happened fucking 20+ years ago. Shit, I don't give a fuck about last year.

Fuck regrets...iunno if this thread is even about regrets...it's like saying "don't think your team can succeed because look at what happened like a million years ago."

What're we like scared to win as a fanbase? Would that like change shit too much or something?

I sorta share TBTF's sentiment. No matter what the Jets do right now, I still can't shake the feeling of impending doom. My only cure is seeing the Jets holding up the Lombardi trophy.

Lets all become homers and only think happy thoughts. Instead of: "The Jets lost the Oakland game because they used the wrong game philosphy", Lets say: "Oakland beat us because they beat us.." Instead of saying: "We almost lost to KC because we kept throwing on one of the worst run defenses in the NFL this year..." Lets say:" Herm Edwards just motivated his underrated Chiefs team and his young, unsung, pro bowl talented QB to a higher level of play." Instead of saying: We let teams back into games when we're up big..", lets say:"Other teams go into the locker room and come out more prepared to play.."

I guess its all in the semantics isn't it.. See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil...

Sorry boyz, but I'll just wait on saying this team is ready to challenge the elite of this league just yet. Lets see which Jets team shows up in Tenn....

Here's what I don't understand: Why do people draw on forty years of history to judge this year's team?

Unless you think there's intervention from some supernatural force that causes the Jets to suffer, what happened to past teams has damn near nothing to do with what this year's team does. Outside of players/owners, there's no continuity aside from the laundry.

This is not saying that I'm banking on the Jets winning the Super Bowl or anything. But I like this team better than last year's team... and I like their chances better than any team since 1998.

I'm not an optimist. I'm not a pessimist, either. I try my best to be a realist. As such, I don't understand the need to be down on what's been a promising season so far. A perfect season? Obviously not. But a promising one. If they don't make it, they don't make it... but convincing myself that they're destined to not make it for whatever reason doesn't do me any good.

It's not about regrets. Those of us who have been on this ride for 20, 30 or 40 years have been conditioned to expect the worst. It's almost Pavlovian. Every time we sniff success it blows up in our faces.

After 40 years, I admit I'm a darksider. I think we're on a helluva roll roll right now and I think the season will finish much better than I had originally hoped.
But I still have that dread deep inside that something will happen to throw this train off the tracks.
Can I rationally explain where that comes from other than our history ? No. Maybe it's just a protective mechanism to keep my spirit from being crushed again.

The thought of "OMG who is gunna fuck it up in that unimaginable way this time?" is that scared to win.

I was adamant about that win on thursday. Even in overtime. I did say twice "Fucking Sutton, go ahead give them the game you old fuck" when the prevent was failing, but in overtime when I saw Rhodes call it, I was confident. When Favre had the ball, I was confident. When Keller jumped ahead for the 1st down, I was confident. When Feely kicked it, I was confident because it was a 34 yarder and not a 35. (odd prediction/superstition.)

Confidence, belief, no fear. Nothing can stop us - nothing can stop this team we love.

But this is just another way of saying that the players are what determines what happens to a team, not the fans (and their outlook). This should be blatantly obvious, of course.

So given this information, if we're watching different players (for the most part), and they're playing well, why cling to ideas that the Jets are going to lose just because they're the Jets, and that's what they've done in the past?

I understand that it's easy to think that way... it's just not rational.

Well, when one gets used to watching a failed product time after time, it seems rational to me to expect more of the same. You can change the paint as many times as you like, but the car is still gonna run the same. I think that's the main perspective of "darksiders".

Personally, I'd like to think it's never as bad as people say, and never as good either. It felt great watching Feely knocking down the game winner, but I'm still cautious to get my hopes way up after just one game. There's still plenty of work to do, and many things can still change from here.

    You know what...it does.

But it does make wins like last Thursdays that much better, because there was no way in hell I thought the Jets would win in OT.

Just taking baby steps toward the light...

I second that statement...the JEts have just broken my heart so many times over the past 20 years, and they have done nothing to show me that imminent doom isn't right around the corner.

To put it in perspective...as sad and pathetic the Bengals are...they've been to the SB TWICE in the past 20 years...

It's always been like this, as far as I can remember. It's silly, but hey, what can you do.

    Darksiders versus Sunshiners?

    Who the heck cares????????

Look, all you so-called Jets fans on this board....

Why do you care about this stuff????

All I care about is that the Jets are winning, they are a lock for the playoffs, they aren't a joke anymore, they are a national team thanks to Favre, the whole football world cares about what they do (first time I can ever remember that since the early 1980s), and they will be in the playoffs at the end of the year. All we need to worry about is the playoff seeding, for crying out loud.

Can't I see a single thread from Jets fans about how much they enjoy seeing the Jets in a winning position? Or are you all nit-pickers?

Honest to God, I am close to giving up on this board because I am beginnig to doubt that any of you are true Jets fans, because too many of you are just sitting there, waiting for the Jets to lose, so YOU CAN TELL US WHAT A GENIUS YOU ARE FOR PREDICTING IT!

And worst of all... I don't see very many of you HAPPY THAT THE JETS ARE IN F'N FIRST FREAKING PLACE!!!

    For crying out loud!
