Vilma could have benefited with Jenkins up front.This Harris injury has me really concerned and LB depth is not looking good at all.When I see Spencer out there im worried.Id take Vilma back in a heartbeat.
No doubt Vilma would have played better this season behind Jenkins. But consider this as well: 1) Vilma's listed weight at 230 is pretty generous. I'd say he's more like 225 or even less. And he's only 6-1. So he's pretty undersized for the standard 3-4 ILB (who are in the 245-250 range). 2) Vilma is in a contract year. He didn't do well for 2 years in our scheme. Yet the guy is a former All Pro who expected to get paid like one. So the trade was as much about $$ as it was about ability. As a guy off the bench playing passing downs, I think Vilma could have done very well here. But his status as a defensive team captain and former star player for the Jets wouldn't really allow that. So it was best to do the trade and get something for him before he walked. He definitely did not like playing in the 3-4.
But in all actuality as we speak the NYJETS got nothing for him and no contributions to the current team trying to get to the Super Bowl.Id much rather have Vilma on this team than a draft pick.
vilma is a 4-3 linebacker. he needs 2 big DT in front of him like ray lewis. then he can run sideline to sideline and make tackles. as far as mayo goes. that guy is a stud. I would have taken him over VG!!
I think there was other shit going on too but both ways--EM was pissed off at him and he hated EM. I recall Vilma made some remarks regarding the Vick situation that didn't sit well with fatso but I don't think if was a big enough deal to put him into the doghouse. Still, he was really playing like shit before his "injury". Harris demonstrated that it wasn't all on Ferguson. It's highly unlikely that he will ever where the green again--I'd be happy to get a 2nd for him.
Villma is far superior in coverage and seems like more of a team leader..Mayo is alot more stout against the run.

You would need to include the word "has" at the end to say what you are claiming in this recent comment. The Baltimore D isn't entirely 4-3 like it used to be. They play quite a bit of 3-4. Ray Lewis always had better stats in the 4-3 (obviously, because the MLB racks up stats in most 4-3 defenses) and has stated many times that he doesn't like the 3-4. Regardless of his feelings, he does actually play well in it. Vilma, however, does not.
I have kept an eye on Vilma with the Saints. He just isn't an impact player. He makes a lot of tackles but they are too far from the line of scrimmage. I don't think Vilma would be making much of an impact on this team either.
Harris made an impact without Jenkins playing in front of him, something Vilma couldn't do in the 3-4. Mayo reminds me of a young Singletary, even looks like him. That being said, I'd take Harris ahead of all of them. He is a load, we got him in the second round, and he didn't have the advantage Mayo has of playing with the best front 7 in football(when healthy). ps. ( I know some will argue that best front 7 thing, but come on, their db's have been dog shit for years and they keep winning)
