http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11/15/sports/football/15rhoden.html?partner=rss&emc=rss Good article talks about a psychological transfomation for the Jets is needed and possibly already underway... Maybe all of us as Jet fans need one too.
I agree 100% with your statement. Most Jet fans have a lot of darksider in them. A transformation is required!
The players are fine. The coaches are not. The coaching staffs 2nd half adjustments have planted the seed of doubt in many peoples minds (dominating 1st halfs followed by lethargic, flaccid 2nd half game plans) I doubt there is one person, Jets fan or not, that thought we would win that game after the Pats came back. It's 100% obvious to me this coaching staff is more concerned with not losing, than winning. If that makes sense. If Mangini and company can get over this 2nd half pussy-strategy then you will see the entire attitude of the organization change. This CS is spoon feeding the players still. Time to unleash them.
I tend to agree with Bricket here: I've only been watching the jets really just this season... and the only excuse for what the staff is doing would be that this is their first year all together doing it. Well, it's not. They've had time. Mangini has had time. They have the players. The effort level out of every player on that field this season is at a level that I think most would agree hasn't been seen in some time. They believe. Maybe it's Favre. Maybe it's Kris Jenkins. Calvin Pace, Faneca, Woody... who knows. But the attitude has changed. The locker room expects to win. I mean, when Leon after the game said in OT when he was in the huddle and looked at Favre, he had absolutely no doubt that #4 was about to march them right down the field for the victory. He said Favre had that exact same look in his eyes when he got the TD winning drive against KC, and the OT forcing drive against Oakland. They believe. The problem? The coaching staff has an overall conservative mentality. They open it up early, shut it down with the lead. Why? That strategy has proven to fail more then succeed most of the time. I mean, that is the entire philosphy of the Prevent Defense: Your sitting ont he lead and not letting a Big Play TD happen. Of course, It seems to happen EVERYTIME your in prevent (the big play TD), but I digress. Put the foot on the gas, and don't let up till your up by 30 with 10 minutes to go.
This was especially troubling given the fact that aside from one quick screen pass, they didn't have a single big play all game. All game the strategy they were using was very effective in limiting Moss/Welker from getting huge plays over the top. Maybe the ONLY thing they should have changed was to put an additional safety out there over the 3rd receiver in that last drive. I don't know why they would go away from a strategy that had be working almost perfectly to stop the big play. Don't show us that bullshit prevent defense unless we're up by 3 scores or more late in the 4th Sutton. C'mon.
well here's the good news.mangini and law have a good relationship and law probably has his ear when it comes to the defense.so i could see a scenario where they start getting conservative and law gets in his ear and reminds him of the way they worked in patsieville.if not there gonna underperform in the playoffs
What are you in charge of the posts this week? Take the fire sutton sig out and then maybe we'll talk.
hahaha, nah just throwing my e-weight around. But I really believe that the culture of this fanbase can change, so i do what I can. Sutton will always be my scapegoat. I have shrunk the font down though because of the Defenses dominance.
I've been saying this for...how long? The team and staff appear to believe in itself more and more as the season goes along...at this point I think it's the fans lagging way behind. We've won 6 out of the past 7 games and somehow we still have to overcome the coaching.
So you're going to go around stamping every post you make with a pessimistic phrase at the bottom and at the same time ask that everyone put aside the pessimism until Monday. Seems a bit hypocritical, no?
I wrote a disclaimer about it in one of the threads I started. Its staying. No pessimism in the threads is what I wanted. After a win like that I requested the board take the rest of the week off from bitching with threads about Gholston and playcalling and what play they would have run in that situation, etc. Its been there all year, and I don't wanna re-type it. I changed the color so it blends a little. And I shrunk the sizing since thursday night
the trick is drafting a QB (or Ratliff) that can grow with a team already packed with talent. This roster is great for maturing a young QB. The Jets have to draft the right one. The trick is to draft him in the 4th round.
