14 tackles, 3 assisted, 1 FF last night. I know for the most part the defense played horrible last night, but Barton's performance should not be ignored. Since Harris has been out Barton has stepped up his game tremendously - he's been a force out there.

    Other observations:

How about late in the game, they flashed to Jenkins who was extremely livid over something - getting held or hands to the face? Very Next play he absolutely ran over the center and sacked Cassel. God I love it! He needs to get mad more often!

It was a joy to watch the mind games being played. First half the Jets put Lowery 1-on-1 with Gaffney and Barrett/LBs on Watson, and Gaffney torches Lowery. Second half, the Jets thought they adjusted, switching them. Instead the Pats start throwing to Watson! Poor Lowery welcome to the NFL

we did a great job on Moss the whole game, switching Revis and Law on him and always Doubling him, but on that one shot deep when he was wide open - WHY THE HELL was Ahmad Carroll out there guarding him!?!?!? That was definetely a blown assignment somewhere, and thank god Cassel over threw him, if no. 12 is there thats an easy six pts.

Lastly I'm just soo happy we won, Idk if I'm getting old or if I had a few too many brews at the bar but it felt like my heart was gonna pound out of my chest late in the game! Dont do this too me JETS!!!

Eric Barton is the man! I was really upset when there were rumors over the last couple of years that they were going to release him. He is the emotional leader of our defense.

Good call on the Jenkins play. I thought the same thing. Jenkins also had a sack earlier in the year right after jumping offsides.

I thought Barton was fantastic last week. I thought he was great early on last night. He did disappear in the second half but so did many on defense. I believe it was because of the spread offense NE threw at us. Overall, he has been playing well.

If pissing Jenkins off is going to get him to play at a high level, I am going to slap his momma prior to every game.

I will do this from a distance of course....

Eric Barton has been our most consistent player on D after Kris Jenkins and Darrelle Revis. He always was the most impactful of the 3-4 linebackers, having good seasons in 2006 and 2007 while everybody else looked flat, but given a real NT he has been a beast.

I was all in favor of the team moving on without Eric Barton after this season when his contract is up, but now with a real NT in front of him like Kris Jenkins, I have completely changed my viewpoint. We need to keep him.

Defensive viewpoint...............where oh where was Bryan Thomas last night? After starting out like a man possessed, he has quietly reverted back to his 2007 form.

    My observations:

    - we need a LB that can cover
    - Lowery struggled but I still like him. He knocked down a few but he needs to make that one pick
    - Did Bryan Thomas play last night?
    - I like our original gameplan (i.e. 3-4 man rush/double Moss/Revis on Welker) but we need to change it up at times during the game
    - Leon never ceases to amaze
    - By far, Favre's best game as a Jet
    - Keller is a beast
    - Mangold should be in the Pro Bowl
    - Law did well all things considered
    - Faneca is a much better run blocker than pass blocker
    - Eventually, we will need to develop that killer instinct and put good teams away when we are that far up

Bryan Thomas stinks. Could we do any worse trying Gholston?

I got the feeling Jenkins was yelling at Lowery for dropping the easy INT that would have sealed the game. The next play was incredible, I have never seen a guy that big move so fast.

Well, Our 3-4 is more like 5-2 with two mobile DEs and 3 DTs. Short passing game will kill this team.

That's why the defense MUST pressure the QB. Because of the given situation (5-2) the longer the QB has time to hold the ball and survey the field, the higher the chance he has to find an open TE/slot WR. (It's unfair to ask DEs to cover TEs/WRs - as they are slower) And... they didn't even touch Cassel all night long - that's a recipe for disaster against any offense, not just the Pats.

Barton has been great since Harris has been out. 17 Tackles last night in a big game for a 31 year old LB is pretty nice.

solid what? I watched the chiefs game and the game last nite and don't remember him making a one tackle in either--also how many "one bad games" are you giving him?

Yeah, I dont know what the hell you've been watching the past 3 weeks, but Thomas has been completely digressing.

The reason so many of Barton's tackles were solo tackles is because he was tackling the guy he was supposed to cover. Barton also moved out of position when Cassel faked run and then Cassel threw the ball to where Barton used to be. A nice player, but no coverage ability.

How many beers and bong hits did you have while you watched the KC game? Thomas had at least 5 or 6 tackles in that game.

Hmm, Vilma was able to cover right? It's funny how after he leaves all of a sudden we need a cover LBer.

And on Lowery, he is going through his growing pains now, but if you stay with him, he will have a breakout year similar to Revis next year.
