I didn't say it was a flat out lie. If you go back and read how the conversation transpired, it started with a hypothetical trade offer. I was told it was an awful trade... which is fine. I'm not saying the Giants should have been chomping at the bit for those players I named, just that I thought it was a reasonable offer. If there are other, better offers out there, like that ridiculous Fielder/Hardy/Prospect offer out there, obviously something like Matsui/Kennedy/Coke won't get it done. And at that price, I'd rather not go after Cain. (But I sincerely, sincerely doubt that the Fielder/Hardy rumor is a valid offer. GMs make stupid moves... but that is beyond stupid. That is beyond Kazmir for Zambrano stupid.) That said, I am aware of Cain's value. What I was NOT aware of was this amount of alleged interest in him from other teams. That wasn't there during the year. It wasn't there to such a degree last offseason, either (and Cain didn't have a sparkling 2008 at first glance... hence the notion that he would be undervalued). Because of this, I'm told I am overvaluing Yankee players, though. Riiiiight. Thanks for the advice.
10-4 However, must rebuke some misinformation There WAS interest in Cain, but Sabean flat out said, "Not available, don't inquire". So teams obliged. Which seems to be the notion this offseason, as well... http://bleacherreport.com/articles/78247-brian-sabean-matt-cain-not-on-giants-trading-block
I can't believe they are seriously thinking about using Swisher as a starter. Not to mention that he is a locker room cancer supposedly. http://www.nypost.com/seven/11142008/sports/yankees/swisher_means_teixeira_unlikely_138588.htm
Um... what? Says who? Everything I've read is that he is a big team-first guy, and great in the clubhouse. From Abraham: Link
Yeah, team-first is what I've heard about Swisher too. As for the money to Sabathia, whatever. We were giving truckloads of cash to the likes of Giambi and Pavano these past few years. I'll overpay for Sabathia. I find it amazing that anyone who cried about not putting together a Santana deal would now cry over giving Sabathia money. At least in this case we get a potential Cy Young winner without sacrificing any prospects.
Cappy you have a fuckin star wars avatar and you're telling me to play with crayons? And your assesment of Cain was laughable dude. And your trade was moronic. And no matter how may people tell you so, you just post eyerolls and smiley faces. And of all the sickening traits that you have, the biggest one has to be your cowardice. When the Yankee season went down PRECISELY as I told you it woul, you disappearedd for two months.....then you thought they were making a move You magically appeared again. And then of course, just like the Yankee season, you faded into the sunset. Hahaha go stick your charts and your ultra-baseball nerd stats up your ass because all they do is make you look like a clown.
Yanks also making a offer to AJ Burnett... Jeez. Shave off $80 mil...Just go right back and spend it. Hope it works out this time, although AJs injuries would cause me to back off.
The comment was not about your immaturity, but rather about your seemingly willful ignorance regarding anything that resembles critical thinking. Since you self-admittedly embrace this attitude, may I suggest that you take a fucking joke? Something tells me that you wouldn't even be able to tell me what my assessment of Cain was, or why the trade was laughable... even with all the information right in front of you. Actually, something tells me that you wouldn't even be able to tell me WHO Matt Cain was, prior to his name being brought up in this thread. A couple of points: 1. Cowardice? Why? You really think I'm scared of something on the internet? And you think your prediction might be that something?! Really? Dude, that might be the funniest thing I've heard all month. Please. I think you might be projecting your own insecurities onto other people's behavior. I started a new job in August. I have a family. How comfortable are you at frittering away time on the internet at a new position? My guess is, "not very." But, okay, yeah... I didn't want to face the music and admit that Nostradumbass "predicted" the Yankee season. Good for you. I'm so embarrassed... for you. 2. The season didn't go down "precisely" as you said it would. We've already been over this. You're willfully ignorant of this, too, I suppose. I can explain it to you again, if you like... or just point you back to the original posts. In short, the season didn't end well for the Yanks, but pretty much for the opposite reasons that you thought... which makes your predictions worth absolute shit. Did you have a bad day or something? Have a few beers and decide to "get tough" on the internet? How sad.
Says everybody who has written about him in the last 24 hours. That is why the Sox couldn't wait to get rid of him. His manager absolutely hated him. Maybe locker room isn't the correct word but all of management hated the guy. They say if he didn't get along with Guillan he will have an even harder time with Giardi. As it is he has been traded twice in 14 months and that says a lot.
"This year's Barry Zito: CC Sabathia For a while, Zito was a very good pitcher with the A's. His first four seasons included a 61-29 record, season-by-season adjusted ERAs 25 percent to 72 percent better than league average, a top-10 rookie of the year finish, two All-Star games and a Cy Young Award. He tailed off in his next three seasons, tossing more than 200 innings in each while delivering good, but not great, performances. That was enough to entice the Giants to chuck $126 million for seven years at then-28-year-old Zito, a move that prompted 29 other GMs and countless fans to type three-letter text messages to each other simultaneously -- the first and last of those three letters being "L." Zito has been a huge disappointment in his first two years in San Francisco, including an abysmal 5.15 ERA in 2008." Can't help but think this guy is right. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=keri/081114
Cappy, all of your notions about me are actually incorrect. I know exactly who Cain is. Before even watching a game I knew who he was because of the asshole Mad dog. I am also in no way trying to be an "internet tough guy",. I just cannot stand you. Theres really nothing more to it than that. Not really a big deal. Ill just ignore you as I should have been doing all this time. So I do apologize for arguing on the internet like an idiot with you. on a side note, you really should take some time looking through your posts for the last year or so and perhaps realize that everytime someone disagrees with you , your posts seem to have a tone that you think youre the most knowledgeable person in America when it comes to baseball. As far as your continued accusation that I don't like to engage in "critical thinking" , well thats simply not true. Obviously you dont know me and I dont know you, but I feed my family with my critical thinking. And I really dont see how you searching the internet for all these ridiculous "new age" baseball stats and regurgitating them on a message board qualifies as critical thinking. Maybe you should get back to simply watching the games. At the end of the day, thats all you have to do to analyze a player and/or team. So I promise you, I will never respond to another one of your dick head posts again. Please feel free to respond to this one and tell me im a retard or whatever as you deserve to speak last here. If not great. We'll agree to hate eachother's internet being. fair enough?
There are pretty strong rumors that the Padres are opening up Peavy negotiations to other teams and the Yankees may be at the top of that list. I can see them dumping Hughes and Kennedy or Cabrerra to get him. In none of the scenarios do you even hear Hughes or Kennedy's name being mentioned as a pitcher for the Yankees this year. At best they will be in Scranton waiting for somebody to get injured.
If that's how you feel, please do put me on ignore. For the record, I have no ill will toward you. I do find it irksome, however, that for the past... oh, I don't know... season - instead of engaging in baseball discussion or debate with me - you just take snarky shots from the sideline. I think that's weak, but only because I find it unconstructive, and now find myself responding to a post about tone and personal feelings instead of baseball... that's not why I visit this site. Just my experience, but trying to interpret tone via message board posts the internet is never a good idea. I disagree with this last statement, for a myriad of reasons. More than disagree. It is just incorrect. Sorry, but it is. And it supports my notion that you are unwilling to think critically (about baseball, at least). If you take a critical approach to baseball analysis, you do not automatically shun information (like "new age" stats)... you attempt to incorporate as much relevant information as possible into an evaluation that makes sense of it. All of it. And you know what, if you don't want to analyze baseball at a level beyond watching the game, that's fine. Go nuts with that. But please don't also assume that your opinion is equally valid or supported when compared to someone who has looked deeper. It's not. It might be correct. It might not. But there's no way of measuring it, and it is a fact that the human brain can and will deceive you if you're relying on what you see and remember to make your judgments. If you don't believe me, google "cognitive bias" for examples. *scratches head* I'm always surprised at how worked up people can get. You "can't stand me"? You "hate my internet being"? I don't get it. I enjoy discussing/debating baseball. I never (or very, very rarely) take it personally. Even from you. I certainly have more important things to worry about than jonnyd's apparently serious attempts to insult me on a message board. As I said, I find it somewhat irksome in that it distracts from the conversation, but that's about it. Good luck to you.
