This is a game we would have lost with Penny, and I have no doubt in my mind. I will not listen to anyone trying to debate otherwise.
What about Nagle? Do u thing Nagle, Obrian, or Boomer would have completed that pass to Keller? Was keller even born on 83? Your thoughts?
I agree with you here, to some extent. You could easily argue that this thread is only going to lead to pointless bickering back and forth, with no real progress or end in sight. The reason I wanted to start this thread is because there are so many times instances on this board where I feel like people write shit just to write shit. People write things without really thinking about them or just because they don't want to listen to anything that might hurt the credibility of one of their preconceived notions . . . I feel like the Chad-Favre stuff really epitomized this complaint that I have about this message board. In particular, I feel like a lot of people backing Pennington were writing things that were verifiably incorrect and intellectually dishonest. Listen, people should always be prepared to defend their beliefs with sound reason and logic. I agree that this thread probably won't lead to anything meaningful but all I have done is ask people to defend their opinions. By the way, I respect a lot of posters here very much (you included) and I'm only looking for some spirited debate.
Feels good to finally see a real Qb in Jet Green doesn't it? Im sure the reality of Brett will make it impossible for anything remotely close to Chad to ever Lead this team again!
I don't think it's underrated in the media but I do think it's underrated on this board to a degree (virtually everyone was posting yesterday that the Jets would not be able to run effectively on the Pats and I kept pointing out that they already did run effectively on them in week 2, something everyone forgot about)
I like Brett Favre. That does not mean I am forced to dislike Chad Pennington. I actually like Chad Pennington. And, since I think you are hinting at this, I also like Aaron Rodgers. I have never posted a word of criticims of Aaron Rodgers anywhere. The closest I've come to it is criticizing Packer management for choosing him over Favre, and for questioning that he deserved the big new contract after only 6 starts as a pro. I know that is a difficult thing for some to wrap their heads around, but yes it actually is possible to do, to like both the old and new QB, and not be continually tormented by questions of which is "better," or feeling like you can only be "loyal" to one by heaping hate on the other. You are exactly right to bring that up, but you are exactly wrong in your conclusion: I got here because I don't live in that kind of rut, not because I do. This is not George Bush "you are either with us or against us" stuff.
Fair enough bro. Well put. You are here because you like your teams former QB enough to continue to follow his career. And its the same with some Jets fans with Chad. Once Chad stumbles and ruins the dolphins year he will fade from memory.
OK, sorry if I reacted strongly, but I am sincere in my distaste for perpetuating this infighting (and the distaste is nothing personal for those that do that, it is for what they are doing). While I can definitely relate to your comment that "so many times instances on this board where I feel like people write shit just to write shit," I think it would be more productive in the long run to at most just react to it when they do, and not provoking it as you may be dong here. And, as I said before, maybe they will come out of that rut if you leave them alone long enough, don't keep pooking them and making them defensive and drive them to feel they have to "post more stuff without thinking" -- i.e. perpetuate the cycle.
Chad never would have engineered either that last drive in regulation or the drive in OT. Favre is a better QB.
You're incredibly wrong, but don't let that stand in your way. Jets fans just love the underdog. It's been like that as long as I can remember. Chad was adored because if he won it all, it would be symbolic of the fanbase. The guy who, against all odds, toughed it out and in the end it paid off. Another example was Wayne Chrebet. He was adored by Jets fans, so much so that the vastly more talented Keyshawn Johnson had no home here after making some stupid remarks. That's the way it is with the Jets. We don't have many heroes in our history, so the "Everymen" are the ones of legend. Chad is one of those guys. --------------------- For the record, to answer the original topic, I think Chad would have done the job last night. He would have marched down the field. He would have waved his towel on defense, and thereby willed Law to prevent Moss from making that catch. If somehow that hadn't worked, he would have marched right down the field again and scored a TD, rather than rely on Feely. Then he would have solved world hunger, cured AIDS, discovered a new planetary system beyond the range of the current Hubble telescope, and invented a viable process to create cold fusion. Then his arm would have fallen out of the socket, Kellen Clemens would take over for the Titans game, and begin a 25-game slide, culminating in the public disembowlment of Mangini in Times Square. Such is the (former) life of a Jets fan. Fortunately we now have Favre.
No doubt about it I love Chad but we are a better team with Farve. He played flawless last night and without him we don't in that game.
When Chad went down in 04 the Jets had a higher winning % with Quincy Carter in 04 than with Chad. That team was a running machine a third rate QB could have beatin most of the dogs we beat in the first 5 games. When we faced the Pats we didn't do squat.
I honestly don't think there is an comparisons. I honestly think Chad or Favre would've made that same drive. But sadly too many people want to compare the two. I remember back in the playoffs at San Diego after the Chargers missed their field goal, Chad led a big drive and the Jets won it on their field goal attempt. Brett Favre always will's his team to get the win. Either as the Packers or the Jets. Now he led his side to a big drive to get the go ahead TD & after winning the coin toss, willed his team to get the game winning field goal with a big drive.
I don't know why you have to do this but we were in a similar situation at SD in the '04 playoffs, we had that game won and a dumb penalty sent it to OT. Chad led us to the Win.
