1st day needs: S, CB, ILB, DE (William Moore and Brandon Spikes preferably) Rest of the draft needs: True power RB, RG, potential QB heir (Rhett Bhomar if we are willing to take the chance), NT depth, OL depth, red zone target WR
If we had a Marion Barber type RB (I know Jones has been playing very well) we literally could be one of the top offenses in the league. IMO, Javon Ringer would be great, paired with Washington. Ringer just refuses to go down on first contact. Love watching him play. Also, Toby Gerhart could be a sleeper, but I believe hes a Junior. If we had a bruiser at RB, think about the offense we could have. Favre, Washington, Cotchery, Coles, Keller, and a scrappy RB.

Wait for Clowney to come back and let's see how he is before the draft before we decide we need to get a deep threat WR. I said before the season (and preseason) starter to watch out for Clowney - he showed in preseason that he has the tools to be a very good NFL receiver. His injury unfortunately put everything on hold.
Dustin Keller can become a deep threat if the matchup is there. I don't have much faith in Clowney, because: he can't stay healthy and he's only performed well in the pre-season -- but I hope steps up if he gets the chance -- same with Ratliff. Heyward-Bey, Maclin, Crabtree, and even Harvin are a step above Clowney. I think we need a big time redzone threat over a speedster.
Absolutely! I would really like to see us get Nate Davis. While he has not faced the greatest of competition, he has a cannon for an arm but can put necessary touch on passes when needed. I think with the right coaching he can become a elite qb in the NFL. He is raw, and several years away from this, but he would definitely bring the most return on our pick.
No, he's the best senior quarterback... It is a weak senior QB class - but Bomar has legit arm strength and great athleticism. He could be picked up later, and we could save an early draft pick for an immediate impact player - wide receiver or inside 'backer. He is a very similar player to Brett Favre.
Brandon Moore is playing great, why do we need a RG? I agree with everything else. I also think our problems defending the pass comes from a lack of consistent pressure on the QB, we have guys that can get to the QB, they're just not, which is a coaching issue.
Moore and Faneca are our only capable guards though -- same with Brick and Woody at tackle The problem with our offensive line isn't the starter - it's our depth. We have ZERO depth. If any of the starters went down, everything would spiral out of control. ----- Cassel did have a ton of time on a lot of his throws, but we have a no name at safety in Elam. I know he's made some plays this year, but he shouldn't be a starter. Lowery is also a late round ROOKIE. He's going to have growing pains - Revis and Law will show him the way. He'll be a solid #2 for a while. Our problem with pass coverage is our linebackers can't do it - we need guys in the middle that can keep up with tight ends and make plays in coverage. Barton has been great this year, but his time in this league is coming to an end. We need to keep building this linebacking corps. Harris and Pace are both fixtures there, and Gholston and Thomas will possibly rotate in '09. We need another young guy in the middle - Jasper Brinkely, Clint Sintim, and Darry Beckwith are all 3rd-4th round possibilities RIGHT NOW - the combine could shoot them up, or down, but for right now the Jets can get them later.
Wait, Crabtree, the best receiver and arguably the best player in college football . . . Is better than a guy on our practice squad? Noooo. Can't be!
We just picked up Ty Law, who hadn't played in a year, and he started for us 4 days later. I'd have to say corner.
I still stand by "quarterback," but I'm going to have to say that pass rushing OLB is our second biggest need. I can't tell you how thrilled I am with Calvin Pace. He is not a pass rusher, but he plays the run very well, he has great awareness on screen and stretch plays, and he can pick up some sacks in second efforts. Bryan Thomas has gone from playing very well in the first couple of games, to playing merely adequately the next few games, to being "Same Old Cactus" in the last four or so games. He had two assists on Thursday, four total tackles in the last two weeks, no sacks since Arizona. (He had a half against Cincy). 4.5 sacks on the year compared to 4 by David Bowens, our back-up inside linebacker (and a guy I'd love to see take Thomas' job when Harris gets healthy). So, what about Vernon Gholston? Well, the mentality is "since we spent such a high pick on a pass rusher last year, SURELY we couldn't justify doing so again this year!" Why not? We live in New York, we know that an overabundance of pass rushers is not a bad thing. If Gholston doesn't develop, we need a pass rusher; if he does, having a Tuck or a Kiwanuka in your back pocket can't be a bad thing.
