Great post. Well said. Clearly this writer is coming from the Bahston agendah, and sounds like it. I love how he uses the injury excuse. GTFOH. Teams suffer injuries. It's the nature of sports. Did this same writer acknowledge that the Red Sox beat out the Yankees this year thanks to a lot of injuries on the Yankees? Injuries happen. Elite teams overcome them. Hell, the Pats are clearly more equipped to overcome injuries than any other team I've ever seen. They are deep beyond any means true parity should provide. But we beat them. In their house. In overtime. Sour grapes make terrible whine.
Yep, that's it, and that's all. Here's a great little tidbit: Favre, at his locker, revealed that Patriots fans were taunting the JetsNew York Jets with "Same Old Jets" chants in the third quarter when his turtle offense became frozen. "They ain't saying it now," Favre said. Favre was asked if he said anything to them. "No; Jay did when the ball went through," Favre said.
A win is a win. Yeah the Jets lost an opportunity to take the Pats down a notch but you gotta believe there are a lot of heads shaking in the Pats locker room this morning and no opportunity to do anything about it until the playoffs. Realistically Miami has a better shot at the first wildcard than the Pats right now and the Ravens could pretty easily take the second. I guess I shouldn't be getting that far ahead of things right now but if the Jets can play the Titans tight and pull out an upset I don't think we see the Pats again until 2009.
Agreed the article is complete BS. We don't get it because we don't have many games against real good teams that mean something. When good teams meet and they both have something on the line games are close, teams fight back and they usually come down to the last few plays. Here are the scores of the Pats 4 SB. They beat the Rams 20 to 17 and were holding on for dear life. They jumped all over the Panthers only to have to hold them off in a huge second half comeback to wint 32-29. They beat the Eagles 24-21 in a game that the Eagles out played them and McNabb got butterflies and they lost to the Giants 17-14. If we want to be a contender and win SB the game last night that gave us all heart attacks is going to be played over and over again. If were lucky, we need to get used to playing a lot of games like last nights. The Pats usually win games like that the fact that they didn't is a tribute to our getting better and they are in decline.
Oh God...a QB we're familiar with on the one hand that'll have to rely on its running game...a team that can predominantly be stopped by stopping its run game on the other...*wipes drool off keyboard* Dude, if the Jets can pull off an upset against the Titans, I'll start talking about first round byes. As far as the Pats, their 2nd game against the Dolphins is huge for determining who else gets out of this division, and I'm not sure I feel so great about that. They're not going to surprise 'em with the Wildcat again.
That was put perfectly. I had that same old feeling in the second half, but the last Jets drive in the 4th had me thinking this might be different. When Favre hit Keller on 3rd and 15? I knew we were a different team.
That franchise has been spoiled for so long, their fans and newspapers don't know how to handle a tough loss. You'd think they would be good at it after the last superbowl.
Just the last? The Jets had at least 3 terrible defensive series in the second half but were bailed out by a fumble and a bad snap. A win is a win but they definitely got some much needed bounces during the game.
You know what, the author is right, we could have put them away. BUT, they proved something to me that was way more important. Former championship teams (colts, patriots) whenever the game was on the line, no matter how the rest of the game was going, their offense put together a good long drive at the end of the game to milk time off the clock. And at 24-24 thats exactly what we did. We converrted on a number of big third downs at the end of the 4th and in overtime. And to me, showing we have the ability to do that is more important
while I agree with the sentiment that it doesn't signal a changing of the guard, the article loses all credibility on this statement: what pulse? the Pats didn't out play the Jest on the final drive, the Jets let them drive down the field and the Pats only made one play the Jets didn't give them, hardly symbolic of a team that really had any life in them. the Jets gave up that final TD more than the Pats rose from the dead and took it from the Jets. not to mention, despite that, the Jets took the ball in OT and drive it down the Pats throat. the writer is looking for symbolic moments to define each team's ability to dispute the outcome in favor of the Pats, but is ignoring that most symbolic one because it shows that the Jets were simply better. with our backs to the wall, the team deflated and the momentum for the Pats, the Jets are the team that still had a pulse left and drove down the field on the Pats on plays the Pats, unlike the Jets, weren't willing to give up.
I loose my mind when i read these slanted article. We will never get respect until we go on an extended run like the elite teams do! Id hate to remind all these idiots who state we didn't beat the real patriots, well the real patriots lost a super bowl and allowed there QB to be slaughtered in the process. The New York Jets responded when they needed to! The jets Took chances send extra guys , often leading to the likes of Welker and Gaffney being by themselves or a D back 5 yards off who guessed wrong. The same occurred to the Patriots , thus leading to Keller being in space. The one stat that impressed me was Bret Farve more then 5 completions to 5 different receivers. I don't care about the partisan break down and the sympathy vote that's being passed out to a real good team that got beat last night. What I care about is the little things. The Jets went back to the basics ......running the ball effectively to set up the pass. In years past the Jets wouldn't scare anyone on the ground and now , they are finding respect on the opposite side of the ball. Brett Farve is just about synced up with his receivers now and all that can go wrong is if his rocket passes go through their hands. To be a fair dealer here , Eric Mangini doesn't go out for receptions and he's not making the tackles , so let cut the guy some slack. :jets:
That about sums it up. We won a HUGE close game against a team that usually wins close ones. The fact that we came out on top this time speaks volumes about where we are and where we are going.
Once again great point 227, I think the concern expressed by folks on the board, inluding me is why this game was close. Flat second half offensively, due to adjustments made by Pats, prevent defense. I would like the team to play two consecutive complete games of football, i.e. good first and second half. While we won, and I am glad, no one can say we did that last night. We need to put teams away and there does not seem to be a killer instinct. If the half time score was reveresed we proabaly do not come back like the Pats did, because they know how to put the dagger in the heart.
I agree that we need to be better with the dagger. The Rams and KC games are stunning examples. The Raiders game was a ridiculous loss. We DID insert the dagger in overtime with that drive and the Feely FG, but it shouldn't have come to that. If the score was reversed at halftime, I'm not so sure. I do know that I don't think Pennington would have been able to pull it off, but I think Favre might have.
