Thats why the NFL holds a draft every year...by your standards most, if not all, teams are getting old.

Last year you were mad they didn't play for last year...shit this year you were mad they didn't play for last year...now you're mad they haven't (in your opinion) set up the team for 2010?

Yeah, it really confused me when he traded up for Keller. I mean, I don't think any WR had even been taken at that point and there were still lots of pass-catchers available. Correct me if i'm wrong, but I think Donnie Avery was the only WR taken before the Packers used the pick they traded for to draft Jordy Nelson.

Not that big a deal about age.

So by 2010, if we keep all those players. We will have 14 players out of 53 who are over 30? I doubt guys like Favre and Law will be here in 2010, or Jones for that matter.

Says alot about Keller doesn't it?

I'd take Keller over every WR in last years class. The only ones making impacts this year are Avery, Royal, and Jackson anyway. Keller is bigger than all of them, and what our WR corps lacked was size.

To tell you the truth, the only people who hated the Keller pick for the Jets were the people scared to draft a TE in the first for whatever reason.

"Jets fans have trouble getting over the past syndrome."

    But this is a day for merriment...so F it...it was Becht's fault.

Keller is physically larger than all of them, though for size the WR James Hardy could have been taken. And as good as Keller appears to be, I would take Royal, Avery, or Jackson over him in a heartbeat. I disliked the pick because I think the Jets could have stayed in place and still gotten a pass-catching talent while keeping the other pick they gave up for Keller.

And while size in a WR corps is desirable, I think talent at the position is more important. Can you imagine Eddie Royal catching passes from Favre?

James Hardy beat up his dad dude. I doubt he's the kind of guy the Jets were looking to hire.

I can imagine Royal catching passes from Favre...but I've actually seen Keller do it and I enjoy that alot more.

Also, we have a Royal clone in Stuckey.

And hellllllllllll noo I wouldn't take any of those 3 over Keller. You couldn't even pay me to do that. Keller's long term upside destroys theirs, and his short term upside isn't shabby either.

Hardy I threw out there just because you brought size into it. I like him as a WR though, and think he'll be a bitch in the redzone once he gets used to the game. And I don't mean to instigate or anything, but methinks calling Stuckey a Royal clone is a green-tinted glasses kind of statement. Stuckey is good and could continue to develop, but Royal is sick nasty and on an offense that physically lacks the healthy RBs needed to run the ball.

In terms of long term upside, I assume you are talking about Keller learning to block. While he could be impressive as a 2-way TE, Avery, Royal, and Jackson have more speed and quickness and (esp for Jackson) big-time ability in the return game. Keller is good and will be good for this team for a while, but I still think it was unnecessary to trade up for a pass-catching weapon.

Sure, probably. But this year he's got less than 10 catches and 90 yards for the season.

Basically, Keller's game last week was better than Hardy's career to this point.

And Keller is pretty good in the red zone right now, and offers more big play ability than Hardy in the future IMO. Both Keller and Hardy ran 4.5's, but Keller did it at about 25 pounds heavier.

Eh. True enough, I guess. I think it's more a matter of opportunity, because Royal and Stuckey have similar skills and size.

Long term upside includes flexibility...Keller can't be covered by most LBer's and is too big for most safeties and corners. He can/should learn to block, making him a bigger factor in the running game than those guys will ever be.

Not that those guys aren't good players or anything. Keller just brought something the Jets desperately needed, size and speed, instantly. That plus the potential he has for the future is ridiculous.

We've already got a guy with similar size, speed, and skills to those guys. Hell, you can argue we have two guys like that with Coles and Stuckey. What we needed was what Dustin Keller brought...size and speed.

I don't think a single Jet fan would take that move back. Keller's cieling is ridiculous, and by the looks of it his floor wasn't low either.

That would be Johnny Mitchell syndrome....
With respect to the rest of the moves, I am not going to annoint either mangini or tannenbaum with the title of genius, however I will say that the drafting has been better than any other period I can think of as a Jets fan.
