A couple weeks ago i would have said RB but then Thomas Jones started lightin it up, then i considered it being S then Abe Elam started becoming a playmaker all of sudden. And ILB the way Barton is playing why not atleast sign him to another contract to play another couple of seasons.
Really going through it its probably a linebacker who can cover im liking Brandon Spikes as our first round pick right now.I still think we should sign Barton to start and then back him up wen he's ready.

first of all Barton is almost 30, so age might become a factor pending on the length of the contract

Our main issue is an elite offensive skill player. Leon Washington is a situational back at best especially considering he pulls double duty taking kick and punt returns. Keller is an elite player...for a tight end. Keller has proven himself but as a receiver he is good...as a TE he is elite but if he is listed as a WR on the draft his stock is probably way down. I know we always talk about how Clowney or Stucky are number one receivers and yes it does have partially to do with the moron calling the plays, but lets face it they have not really done anything.

The reason we need a skill player is because there is no one on our offense who people REALLY have to game plan for. I still think that assuming we have a first round choice the priority is a offensive skill player considering that we have legitamite shot of getting Chris Wells who is already ready to go for NFL, or Morreno who has torn up the SEC (Still the best conference in college) and while we probably wont get a guy like Crabtree or Hayward-Bay we can still grab a guy like Jeremy Maclin who is tearing it up

also there is still guys with lots of value going into the second and third round we could snag a guy like Charles Scott who has the heart of a lion and refuses to go down when he makes contact, or a guy like Javon Ringer who has power housed through the Tiny 10 as i like to call them. Even at receiver a guy like Kenny Britt (Rutgers) or Louis Murphy. Louis murphy will be a stretch but he is 6-3 and runs a 4.3 40

After that it is all about the D like I said if we found another young mlb to play with Harris our lb would be one of the most dominate in the league a guy like Dannell Ellebre or Scott McKillop would help us out tremendously

The Linebacker and secondary are tied while I wont say a guy like Taylor Mays or Vonte Davis is going to be available you still have guys like Patrick Chung, Derek, Pegues, or courtney green at saftey. and at corner you can take your pick at Victor Harris, Alphonso Smith, or Trevard Lindley.

Once we have addressed those needs the next concern is probably depth at End. While Coleman is good against the run, we could use a little more pass rush. After that it is finding a nice nose tackle to back Big Jenkins and offensive line depth, and dare I say it a qb

An ILB who can cover would be my first choice, because even if safety and WILB are equal needs Barton is old and our safeties are young. Then a safety, then an RB, then a guard. Faneca is old and we need OL depth.

I'd try reaching for a little bit more then biggest, how about top four needs in order? My list will change by the end of the season for sure but I guess this is a start.

I would go somthing like this ATM:

ILB - We have coverage problems and Barton is not getting any Younger.

Safty - Elam is doing well for now, but its only been a couple of games. If a very good player was to drop to us there is no reson not to grab him.

WR - Coles is aging. We could use a tall threat on the other side of Cotch. I'm not sold on either Clowney or Stucky being a full time starter.

OL depth - We need some talent to groom behind Faneca or Moore at guard.

DE - Coleman has been decent, but not great. Ellis is having a huge season but is not getting younger.

If Favre was to retire it would obviously move QB up the list, but for now I'm happy having 3 young guys behind him, unless one of the elite prospects falls into our lap. Then you almost have to take a look at him.

Same goes for RB. Jones has looked good, but not great this year. If Moreno or Wells are there its a no brainer, but I doubt we get a sniff of either one.

    this really is it.

The man who takes over for Favre.

And this team is in perfect shape for that young kid, because he has a defense that can stop people and an offense with reliable guys to cover his growing pains.

Its the Joe Flacco situation. But the Jets have to go find their Joe Flacco, or even a Matt Ryan. But Ryan looks like the once in a generation type of QB. Flacco is just really really good.

I wouldn't be too sure with this distinction. Ryan was handed the reins to the team in OTA's. He's gotten all of the first team reps through the summer and preseason games. He was "the guy" shortly after being drafted.

Flacco took over when the #1 and #2 QB went down late in training camp. He was supposed to sit and learn this season but ended up a surprise starter for the first game. Imagine how good Flacco would be if he had gotten all of those reps like Ryan.

On obvious passing Downs Calvin Pace has been lined up as a DE this season. I'm happy with him in that role. Still an Upgrade at DE would be a welcom sight to me.

If I had to pick one position it would be WR.

    Our running game is fine.

    NT, followed by QB

Barring a few special cases (i.e. Vince Wilfork) it takes a while for a NT to make the transition to NFL - he needs time to 1. adapt to the speed of NFL 2. bulk up 3. refine technique. Jenkins is 29, going on 30, and has a back problem. Now would be the best time to think about his replacement, if there is a decent prospect in 3rd round.

*64th pick will count as a early 3rd rd pick, right?*

o-line it's now been 3 drafts since we took an o-lineman high.one of the first 3 picks has to be o-line to keep from getting old

If you think O-line is the teams biggest need you haven't watched the Jets at all this year.

I'm all for taking a developmental linemen in the 3rd or 4th, but our biggest need? Really?

guys a #2 corner is clearly our biggest need. Lowery gets picked on more than a 95 pound freshman in highschool. Before everyone bashes me and says "hes a rookie" blah blah blah

If he improves before the end of the year i can see it but worst case, we have a great cheap nickel.

I think we just generally need like a dominant playmaker on offense, WR would be my preference. I do think we could have a shot at DHB depending on his draft season.
