People like Champ and Don still need something to cry about or it ruins thier little negative world. If the Jets ever win another superbowl they will probly pull a raiderjoe and go missing for weeks. Only to come back and say how we were lucky to pull it off and should have lost the game.

... Oh and "I was on vacation". The typical bullshit excuse when they have nothing bad to post about.

Not unseating but how about at least subbing for? Regularly rotating in and factoring into a couple tackles a game? You really don't think his lack of even PARTICIPATION - let alone production - at this point of the season is a somewhat ominous sign? The guy has SEVEN tackles through 9 games. I'd love to know how many defensive snaps he's even played. Surely Thomas and Pace need to be spelled once in awhile, is he at least the first sub in when one of those guys comes out?

Not saying he's sure to be a bust, just really concerned at this point.

I'm just glad we have not needed him yet.

So who would you sit to have him start? Pace or Thomas?

LaMarr Woodley was a 2nd round draft pick - not 6th overall.

LaMarr Woodley had 6 sacks his rookie year backing up Clark Haggans, including 2 in their playoff loss to Jax.

I think if Gholston started every game he'd have at least 3 sacks by now.

At this point complaining about Gholston is just people bitching for the sake of bitching. We are second in the league in sacks right now and the defense has been very good.

If our defense had given up 0 points all season the same people would still be bitching about Gholston.

People who write someone off in there rookie season are foolish. They have been proven wrong time and time again.

Get over it - we have one of the best defenses in the league and the kid is learning the ropes. When his time comes he'll be ready.

It's just easier to live in reality then to pretend to be something you are not like you and many others on this board do on a daily basis. Oh, and I have already weighed in on what I think was a mistake yesterday in the thread that was made for it.

The reality is....we have excellent depth at the LB position. Our starters are playing exceptional well (and this without David Harris) which is a luxury for Mangini...because he can allow Gholston to learn and develop without the pressure of being counted on as a starter in his rookie year.

The guy is NOT a bust......he's not ready to be a starter yet.

why is this concept so difficult for you to grasp??!!

I think it is ridiculous to draft a player on the basis of your decision that you need him to start or even make an impact within six months.

Guys who think this approach is reasonable simply do not understand the differences between college and pro football.

Neither Chris Long nor Vernon Gholston will make a difference this year -- regardless of the team, and regardless of how they do later.

There's too much of a learning curve, a physical difference, and a speed differential for newbies to do well as a rule.

Just because we are graced by such phenomenal exceptions like Matt Ryan and the one or two others that appear out of the college draft every year or so, we should not assume that this is the rule.

After all, a lot of those young'uns who do make a big splash in the Pros are not necessarily drafted in the first round.

The jury should still be out for Gholston, and I don't believe he's ready to be judged by anybody.

I would draw your attention to the attitude of the CS toward him to date, as an indication of what should hold true among the fans.

I completely agree. The idea that a rookie could be deemed a "BUST" after 9 games is not only illogical, but it's not supported by even a superficial look at NFL history. There have been countless players who struggled to see the field or make any meaningful imapct in their rookie season, who have, in point of fact, become great players. Yes, OF COURSE I am dissapointed that Gholston has not been an immediate contributor, however, it's clearly way too early to start making an assessment on the guy's career, as a whole. He's been in the league for HALF A SEASON. Chill out, people.

Overreactions, I would love to see if we actually ever won the superbowl and what we could find to complain about.

    -strength of schedule
    -the game was boring
    -we didn't win by enough

    lol

at this point I could care less, because the fact of the matter is the jets defense has been a huge strength this season and we playing for sole possession of 1st place on thursday.

Gholston is a bust as of right now... Hopefuly that will change but i was against geting him in the first place so maybe i have a bias opinion...but he sucks right now... but he is NAASSSTTYYY in Madden 09 lol... why would they sign him if they were targeting Calvin Pace??? 7m dollars for a PT ST player... who wiffs on takles and has shown no aggression and is now learning to cover people instead of putting his hand down on every play... i would say we should play some 4-3 sets and put ellis at DT next to Jenkins and let Gholston rush the passer but.....Our D is playing good, if it aint broke dont fix it

I remember a guy who was labeled a bust after his rookie season a couple of years ago! His name was Justin Tuck and he plays across town. Maybe you heard of him!

My point is we are having a good year defensively and giving Vernon time to develop. Maybe he needs just what Justin needed. Time
