In fifth grade we were taught how babies were made. So yeah. Second grade may have been too soon when I was growing up, but 3 years sooner doesn't sound all that drastic considering what our kids are exposed to.

Just because it is taught doesn't make it an endorsement. Education has to do with bestowing knowledge, preferably in the absence of opinion, although teachers are only human. Choosing to have ignorant children just doesn't sit well with me.

edit: I was fooling around with the girl that lived upstairs when I was in 2nd grade (full nudity), so it may not have been a bad idea to learn me the ropes around that time.

I have a child in the second grade. There is simply no reason whatsoever he needs to be taught this stuff when he's eight years old. He'll have plenty of time to learn about it later. And he won't learn about it from school. His parents will teach him about it. There's a reason my kids go to private school.

LTJF will be able to give great lessons about sticking large things in your mouth. When they are ready of course.

Well, being repetitive does have a hypnotic way of making things sink in.

Between Richard Scarry and Sesame street all of mine learned their letter and numbers early.

Than there's that 54% of the sheeple that were casually seduced by the Bob the Builder ripoff...oops..

And I will show them your posts so that they see what it's like to live without a brain. When they are ready of course.

No need to be so defensive. Just trying to lighten things up.

Clarification: If you think most kids don't at least have an inkling about sex at the age of 8, you're out of touch or do a very good job sheltering yours. That is not a dig at you, just reality.

It's funny that the same guy who gets mercilessly ridiculed for just presenting ideas (something I support), is against open, adult-supervised discussions in the classroom. The same reason I don't jump on the bandwagon when everyone starts telling you to cut off your head or the like, is the same reason I see no problem with educational curiosity and debate.

Something tells me you weren't so skeptical about the wisdom of a majority of the American people in 04. Notice I did not say 2000.

Same Long Time Jet Fan that eventually wore out his welcome at NYJetsFan? I hope so.

I hate when people misconstrue stupidity with honesty.

Of course it was investigated, and reported on by many credible sources. There was no controversy there, so it didn't become front page material.

If Wright and Ayers were front page material, and attack add material for that matter, if the Odinga matter was scandalous in anyway it would have been real news.

Find as many of them as you can and post them. Call it a challenge.

The Chicago Sun Times is the only paper that did anything of substance on Barack's Kenya connections, and didn't really address Raila Odinga much at all.

Anecdotally, Barack was spending quite a bit of time with Odinga, and all we have are bald statements such as, "Well, he visited with Kibaki also."

I'm with you on this.... while I think your original post is about as ridiculous I have ever seen on this board 2nd grade is way to young to start teaching children about sex and especially about homosexuality. I also agree with you that parents should not be replaced by school in teaching their children about sex but unfortunately not all parents take an active role in their children's lives. These of course are the same parents who blame teachers for their children not passing math class.

Make sure you show them your posts, too, that way they can see the exchange.
