Really Mangini is there not a better option???? Call up Leman or Cummings, sign a FA LB who can cover, someone else no???
I thought Bowens did a pretty darn good job replacing Harris. It sucks that Harris is injured but I feel alot better with Bowens in there then Cummings or Leman.
Well, Bowens did a decent job in a pinch, even if it was due to great penetration by the D-line. I supposed we'll need them to be that dominant every game. I think they can. BTW... Harris has been less than stellar in coverage this year. I'll miss his run support, though.
he got embarrassed in the passing game which was shown on sny.. they were picking on him all game and was the reason we gave up the first td
I saw that when the game was happening. Some turd Bills fan was all bragging to me about what a great draft pick Fine was, and I informed him he was being covered by an OLB because our starter was out, big freaking deal. I didn't see him getting embarrassed all game, however, there were a number of times I saw Edwards avoiding his zones. They threw mostly outside the hashmarks.
I said last week that Mangini should give Cummings a chance since he made a bunch of plays in the Preseason. People responded like my post had 2 heads. This week our D will need more speed than was required last week. Cummings should see the field.
I'm all for keeping a tidy forum, but is there a reason why Harris and his "out indefinitely" injury report didn't deserve it's own thread?
Very true. Harris in coverage usually equals an easy first down pass up the middle. He is the man at stopping the run. Then again, with Jenkins around, we barely need his run stopping anymore. We did a great job against the Bills without Harris. Maybe we should look at someone who is better in pass coverage.
Okay, I just re-watched that play about 7 times and I think you're wrong. We sent Rhodes on a blitz and Bowens was on the right side doing a contain job in an intermediate zone to protect a RB dump-off to the right because they sent Evans on a crossing route to clear that side of the field, judging by the way he was reading the offensive backfield on that side. The only over the top coverage was had was Elam, and Elam stupidly decided to help Revis double Lee Evans on a crossing route across the defensive midfield. The only reason you think it was Bowens was because he realized too late what was happening, probably because he expected over-the-top support from a safety that wasn't there, yet he was the first player to get near Fine and the cameras showed him on the Jumbotron... Elam was the sole coverage over the top and failed. That was an extremely blown safety coverage. Bowens wasn't great in that game, but that TD was on Elam. You could see it in the way AE jerked his head around when he realized the pass was thrown back there.
watch bowens on the TD to the Tight end. he started to the flat, then turned around and could even come close to making a play. he did it twice on that drive
I saw pretty much the same thing abyz saw. I've been saying all week that was Elams guy. Bowens sucks in coverage but he wasn't in man coverage or responsible for a zone that deep.
maybe you are right, but i watched it over and over. if he wasnt responsible for that zone, why was he headed to the flat 2 steps then to the middle of the field?
Give Bowens some credit for bringing some heat on the QB last week. What he will lack in coverage, he will make up for by rushing the passer, his forte. Hopefully he learned a valuable lesson by blowing the coverage on the screen to Lynch. Harris was not playing very well before his injury. Does anyone else out there believe he may have been playing hurt and just aggrivated his injury in the KC game? Mangini does not speak about injuries so I feel there may have been something up. I have no facts but am merely speculating.
