When the mighty fall, they crash and burn. I had really wanted him on the Yankees a couple years ago. I'm glad they didn't bring him in.
All of those "Just say no to Zito" posts I made before 2007 sure look good now. Omar definitely got that one right.
I dumped Zito off my fantasy team today. Four or five days earlier, I dropped Gil Meche. Look at the horrible pitching stats they gave my team for the fantasy week that just passed. My opponent had some assholes, too. Code: W L SV H K ERA WHIP Miami Avalanche 1 5 5 51 41 6.51 1.53 Honey Nut Ichiros 2 2 2 31 20 6.26 1.79
Another fine example of why you shouldn't trust Boras clients in baseball. Some speculation is that Boras is the one who put it into Zito's head to tinker with his motion before the 2007 season (speculation also holds that Boras has done this with some of his younger talent like the Mets' Mike Pelfrey and the Red Sox' Craig Hansen) which has led to his velocity decreasing. I know he wasn't Mike Hampton's agent, but wasn't Boras also Chan Ho Park's agent? Two of the biggest pitching mega-contract busts in the last 10 years. Amazing!
Can anyone pinpoint exactly WTF happened to this guy?!? In baseball, more than any other sport, guys just randomly implode... something I'm yet to understand. Someone enlighten me
Didn't the same thing happen, to a lesser degree, with Kevin Brown? Nah...actuually there is no comparison. Brown pitched well for awhile. He even had his bright spots with the Yankees. Zito has been pure crap since the day he signed his megadeal.
who had a worse deal hampton or zito? and would you as a met fan want zito reunited with petersen at a discounted price?
In Oakland he would his 87-90 with that sick 12-6 Curve and a nice change... At 81-84 mph, at age 29!? Nobody is going to get fooled and can just wait. I'd shut myself down and just get Tommy-John surgery to see if I can come back by 2010 with more velocity.
I loved looking at this old thread. http://forums.theganggreen.com/showthread.php?t=8823&highlight=barry+zito&page=2
And this is exactly why you don't trade prospects for rentals. Atlanta is going to pay for that later after the season.
Hey, if you're going to quote posts, why not this one? It is simply not true that Zito has suddenly fallen off a cliff - he has been going steadily downhill since his third year in baseball.
How about the best of both worlds he was going steadily downhill then dropped off the cliff when he hit the big money.
Why are they moving him to the pen? The baseball wisdom says you put your best pitchers in the pen as a bridge to your closer. They better move Zito back to the rotation, where it's safe, and he can't blow those crucial sixth inning situations.
