Rumor has it that the Titans will be looking to take one of the top two QBs in this draft.

If we finish with a worse record we could be in a position to help them get one.

In any event, the Titans getting a franchise QB means that Mettenberger not only loses the job but could be available for trade.

While he went in round six of the draft, he had the potential to be a first or second round pick before the injury.

He could come cheap, could potentially develop into a franchise QB, could hold the fort, and at the very least develop into a competent backup.

If we do trade for him he will be on a cheap rookie contract for three more years.

    Thoughts?

Interesting idea. I think it really depends on the offensive system of the new coaching staff and what sort of QB they're looking for.

But I'd be open to this at the right price

I don't care for his personality, but I think he has potential to be a good player. I'd feel way more secure with him coming into compete with Geno Smith next year than I would with Matt Simms.

Compete with Geno Smith would imply that Geno has a job on this team next year.

Why does anyone still think of that as a good thing?

He's going to be a very solid starter in this league. But for his ACL injury late senior year, he was a late first rounder.

They really like him in Tennessee, I don't see them taking a QB.

And even if they do, they aren't trading him for at least a year.

Too cheap, too much upside. He's their starter until Mariota/ Winston takes over because Locker will be gone.

If Tennessee wants to move up from pick four to our pick I would make them cough up Mettenberger.

Probably won't be available until next offseason..I'd cough up 6th in a heartbeat. I'd go same team different QB and would sign Locker on the cheap to compete with our rookie/Geno.

But if Tennessee wants to move up to our pick we tell them "thank you, no" and WE pick our QB.

What if it's the RG3 deal?

Because he's on his rookie contract and is still in asset in the NFLs most important position. Geno Smith may never start again but I'm 99% confident that he will be on this team next season.

I think St Louis is more likely to pay the price but I think someone pays us a king's ransom for one of the two QBs if we have a high enough pick and are smart enough to take the deal.

Not if Mariota is sitting there.

    Stokes

How did you grade Russell Wilson when he was coming out?

Having already drafted Locker and Mett, plus having a million holes, I would be shocked if the Titans traded up......and I think they'll be picking ahead of us anyway

wow you really think that? I disagree so much. He's not going to be a solid starter in the league. In 3-5 years he will be lucky to have a job as a backup in my opinion

Teams do this all the time. To scare teams into trading up to get the QB they want.

I'd rather take a flyer on Jake Locker if TEN drafts a QB and moves on

I didn't "grade" him lol, I thought he'd be a nice wildcat QB. Didn't see him a lot in college so I really didn't have a lot to go on. He's an anomaly.

I only "grade" QBs that I saw a lot. And I don't really grade them.

Hated every single QB in 2013, loved 2 QBs and liked 5 other QBs in 2014, love 1 QB and like 1 QB this year and don't like the rest.

So if A, B, C, D, E, F, G happen then this player who may possibly become a viable back up, which is clearly what the Jets need - a backup, may become available.

    Compelling.
