Nice, I guessed right. Now lets see if the other half of my prediction is right and they have trouble agreeing to a contract
I think he won't sign... he knows what's going to happen. He's fine staying in Japan which is why I was suprised he posted anyway. Most of these guys have a desire to come to the states but he was lukewarm about it. I thought he would only go to an ideal situation and Texas is not so I don't think he'll sign either.
If the money is very good he'll sign so that his team gets the 52 million, but if they offer less than say 5 years 65? i think he waits it out. Financially next year would be much better for him, more likelihood of the Red Sox and Yankees having interest, likely the new Dodger's owner as well (supposedly he would prefer the West coast and it's large Japanese communities).
What's to say the Texans or Jays won't have the high bid again next year or the year after that? The Yankees will never bid that high and I doubt the Sox will ever again either after wasting 100 million on Matsusaka (yeah, yeah, not a total waste but certainly not what they expected)
There is no bidding next year, he would be a free agent and as such there would be no posting fee, only a contract just like any other free agent. I think the Red Sox and Yankees would both be interested Yankees were this year, and the Red Sox should have more money to play with since Dice's 10 million comes off the books.
sorry didn't see this until now. Probably would've had to make up odds because I doubt any book had betting.
why didn't the rangers just sign cj wilson with all the money they are throwing at this guy? This makes absolutely no sense to me. if i am an angels fan i would be worried that something is wrong with wilson
Wilson took less money from the Angels than Miami was offering. Not sure what Texas offered, but Wilson wanted to go to Anaheim.
Posting fees don't count against the luxury tax for one thing. Also Darvish is more than 6 years younger than Wilson. I'd rather have a player for his 25-31 year old seasons than his 31-36. Add in the payroll savings and it makes a lot of sense.
Apparently he is good friends with Torey Hunter and I heard Hunter on local radio and from what he said Wilson called him and talked to him about FA. Hunter apparently turned down more money to go to Anaheim and he told Wilson go where you are happy. Wilson is from SoCal and grew up an Angels fan so I guess he took a hometown discount.
