I don't think that was the play. I think he was supposed to throw it somewhere else but everyone was covered so he thought he could make a play to the guy all the way over on the left. Probably too much adrenaline pumping.
My reaction was HAHA, Darnold found a man WIDE open across the field...I was thinking it was a homerun play....then when I saw Diggs intercept it, I was like, "DUH, stupid...you never throw across the field like that!...oh well, you got that out the way, now let's get to work" And he pretty much rebounded very well.
My first reaction was "NO!!! You never throw across the field" (yelled at the top of my lungs) The next thing I did was post in the game thread - "Well... he won't make that mistake again." I have total confidence in his ability to process information and learn quickly.
I was more worried about Bates & the call. As far as Darnold I was just glad it happens early in the game & didn't have a Bering on the outcome of the game
