My only question is whether he will finally get some respect and be given the MVP award. My heart says yes, my brain says "of course not."
They're going to have to get this game in. It's almost certain there won't be a game tomorrow or Saturday, maybe even Sunday. Danny is going to make things a mess.
Red Sox released Penny today. The Yankees did themselves no favor beating the shit out of him and Smoltz and having those be their last games in Boston. We may have needed to beat them up again a couple of weeks from now. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4425741
Okay, that one got a real laugh out of me.  Could Penny come in here and fill in that 5th day role? Would he be worse than Gaudin or Mitre? (Honest question. I haven't kept up with Penny's performance at all this year.)
I'd take a flier on him. He's definitely been shitty, but couldn't be too much worse than Gaudin/Mitre. Then again, Penny is notoriously bad in the second half.
It would be funny to bring him in and he suddenly fixes himself. Cappy, you really have to change that avatar. It's killing me to look at it.
He's got a 5.61 era, 2.12 k/bb, and maybe ugliest of all, an .838 opposing ops. He'll give you a few 6 inning/ 3 run performances where he looks okay, but he's already thrown his best games of the season. He had a pretty nice june (3.18 era) but since then he's started to fall off. Pass.
True, but he's also pitched a little better than his line according to his other peripherals, and has been hurt by lousy defense. And that 2.12 K/BB looks stellar compared to Mitre, Gaudin, and even Burnett (this year). Not saying he'd be great or anything... but possibly a risk worth taking when you have a comfortable lead in the division.
That's mostly where I'm coming from. That, and we're just trying to space out starts for Joba. It's not like Mitre and Gaudin are pitching Cy Young ball. Vince Young, maybe...
