This is gonna be such a fun series, big hitters in Howard and A-rod. Great leaders in Rollins and Jeter. Two star pitchers in Cliff Lee and CC dueling it out. They are matched pretty well. Yanks bullpen should be the difference maker though. I say Yankees in 7.
I am hoping so much for this...It would be absolutely amazing to see. Who else agrees that Whitey Ford should throw the ceremonial first pitch? Game 4 Saturday, October 7, 1950 at Yankee Stadium in Bronx, New York Phillies starter Bob Miller matched up against rookie Whitey Ford, making his first World Series appearance, as the Yankees tried to wrap up the series in four straight. New York scored two runs in the first inning, and with the help of Yogi Berra's homer, three more in the sixth to take a commanding 5–0 lead. With a 5–0 shutout, the first two Phils reached base in the ninth, before Ford got the next two out. Andy Seminick then flied to left, but left fielder Gene Woodling dropped what looked like the series-ending out, allowing two runs to score. Mike Goliat kept the inning going with a hit, and Stengel removed Ford to bring in Allie Reynolds. Reynolds struck out pinch-hitter Stan Lopata, giving the Yanks a 5–2 win and the World Series victory. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1950_World_Series
This really should be a great WS. The Phils are the only team in baseball who can match offense with the Yankees, so it comes down to pitching. Lee and Sabathia are a wash and so is Hamels and Burnett, so those games can go either way. so it will come down to the likes of Pettite, Martinez, Blanton, Hughes and the other back end pitchers to decide this series. close games, but Phils in six. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Phils beat Burnett twice, Lee get the better of Sabathia at least once and even Pedro have a good game in the series. even Blanton is capable of throwing a good game. after Sabathia, I think the Phils can tee off on the other Yankee pitchers.
Prediction is tough for me. The Phillies are the defending champs and added Lee. It will be tough. I will say Yankees in 7.
Bah, the Phillies lineup is potent in the NL. Not that theres anything wrong with that, but now the real fun starts.
They can only match offense with the Yankees in Philadelphia. They don't have a Matsui sitting on their bench to throw in as DH. Even then I don't think they come close.
