If you hired the right guy, he's going to know very well the landscape of the draft class and if there are 2-3 QB's to pick from he's going to have a strong opinion on which one is the right guy. The later round picks are incidental, this hypothetical high value GM candidate won't necessarily know the ins and outs of the Jets roster to fill in the later picks perfectly to their taste but they could make the big decision on which QB to take and mix and match what advice to listen to or not from the outgoing scouting department on the later picks. If a candidate were really good they might even have done their homework on the Jets roster anticipating the job opening and to distinguish themselves in the hiring process, knowing they're going to get the pick of the litter on a QB and have a chance to build a franchise from the ground up. Or if one QB really distinguishes themselves as a once every few years prospect the candidates might start lining up, you might even tempt someone good who already has a job elsewhere in the league. But again Woody managed to fuck up the first piece of trying to build the O line in anticipation of all this, so it's probably all wishful thinking and he'll just make a hash of the whole thing like he usually does.
will he fly home for games? Also, have they announced the England games yet for this year and next? I wonder if this means Jets will play in England every year like the cowardly Lions play on bird day.
Depends if the guy has been on the street for awhile he won't have the resources of a full up and running scouting department. This upcoming draft is probably the most important one since the Jets took Namath.
Wonder if he'll wear that goofy hat that he prances around in? A guy in a suit, with a wrinkled hat on, God love Woodrow...
Jets beat will be meeting with Chris Johnson right now and here are some quotes from the Jets beat from media session: Chris Johnson "I will make the decision on Mike Maccagnan, Todd Bowles at end of the year, if there's a decision to make" Chris Johnson on Woody and his role with Jets "He's got a full-time job....He's out" Chris Johnson says Woody told him not to judge on wins and losses, but "progression" Chris Johnson says idea Jets are tanking couldn't be further from the truth Chris Johnson "I am not a patient man" -----BYE MACC AND BOWLES Chris Johnson "ultimate goal is Super Bowl, where he'll leave Woody two tickets. Says its every younger brothers goal to show up big bro" CJ on Jets run defense in first 2 games "there were a lot of mistakes" CJ says he is determined to make Jets great again CJ loved Jamal Adams tackle on Marshawn Lynch by the goal line. CJ says it won't come down to wins/losses for Todd Bowles job. It's all about progression Whenever Woody stops his ambassadorship, he will return as owner of team
This might deserve its own thread. IMO, this is absolutely huge news. And I think it's a very good thing. I can easily see Chris wanting to start over with his own guys. We can go into this offseason with the #1 pick, $80 mil in cap space and a new owner looking for his own regime. If Chris is more competent than Woody (not saying much) we have the legitimate perfect clean slate for a new era of Jets football. I don't see how it could get any better. Here's to hoping Chris knows what he's doing.
Chris Johnson on Woody and his role with Jets "He's got a full-time job....He's out" LMAO, like this guy already
Mods, if you want to make the post regarding the media session its own thread, more power to you. Initial impressions, like him better than Woody. If decision to fire Macc and Bowles is about progression and the team keeps on losing, and he's not patient = they're goners
They announced this months ago when Woody took the Ambassador job. I was wondering why all of the people around here were calling for Woody's head still. I guess I have my answer now.
Woody said this months ago. He's not concerned about wins/losses but progression. CJ is staying the course. The biggest tell-tale sign right now is the regression of the defense and the progression of the offense. This is an immediate indictment of Bowles. I would immediately consider Morton the interim head coach if they let Bowles go mid-season
I wasn't aware that Woody had detached himself from all team decisions. I thought he would want some sort of overseas involvement
Agreed. I knew it was about progression, but obviously through first 2 games, Morton has the O playing better with a lot of minimal talent, and Bowles has his defense playing like garbage and it is worse than it was last year. I can't see how Macc & Bowles are retained
Playing Kerley (44 snaps against raiders) over Stewart and Hansen should go over well in terms of "progression"
