I'm just curious why there isn't more pro Shanahan talk going on, on this board? I think he is a great offensive mind, and with a top notch DC, i think he could be great for this team. I know he had a pretty bad collapse this year, but his overall resume is pretty impressive. In watching his press conference, i saw a fire in him. He seemed ready to coach another full season right now! I think a change of scenery will be good for him. He's got something to prove. Am i missing something?
I thought he would definatly want full control, wherever he went, but he said it's not a necessity. GO GET HIM WOODY!!!
He hasn't been successful in the playoffs since Elway retired. Herm Edwards has more playoff victories. Now.. Mike Ditka on the other hand.......
But a rookie with exactly 0 combined regular season and playoff victories would be better? That's where we are headed. I have to laugh when I hear that excuse about why not to hire Shottenheimer or Shanahan. At least you offered up Ditka which is ok by me.

Shanahan has generally been out of sight and unreachable since his termination. So contacting Shanahan might be more of a challenge than anyone realizes. The Browns also have expressed an interest in interviewing Shanahan, a two-time Super Bowl winner. The Jets reportedly will commence the formal interview process by meeting Friday with offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer and assistant head coach/offense Bill Callahan. On Saturday, the Jets will interview Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo. Other candidates include Ravens defensive coordinator Rex Ryan, Vikings defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier, Colts defensive coordinator Ron Meeks, and Chargers defensive coordinator Ron Rivera. All four men will be working this weekend. If their teams lose, they’ll be immediately available to be interviewed and hired. If their teams win, they can be interviewed next week, but only with the express consent of their current teams.
I'm glad that they're gonna at least reach out to Shanahan. I had heard they were not interested. Boland is reporting that they're gonna contact him, also. I'm happy!
I wasn't dismissing Shanahan, just giving my opinion on why he doesn't seem like a popular choice. I personally don't like him, but I agree with you. A rookie coach is definitely a bigger risk.
Daily News has the back page dedicated to Jets interest in Shanahan, while The Post has Spags on back, as Jets 1st choice, and no mention of Shanahan. Go figure?
Shanahan is a great coach, not so much as a GM. 1) He may want full control like Cowher (and won't get it) 2) my guess is he'll want time off after being in Denver for 14 years. I'd take him as a coach in a heartbeat
well, c'mon down........ :breakdance: I didn't see the press conference, but did he say he wants to coach next year? If he brought along a strong defensive coordinator (particularly a 3-4 guy) I'd say he should be a shoo-in for the job if the Cohwer rumors are true.
I like Shanahan, but the thing is, his system is SOOOO different than what we have. I mean, just think about the O-line and running game alone. I'd prefer to change as little as possible with our schemes just because I think if we get solid QB play and avoid a learning curve with new systems, then we can rebound in 2009.
