It seems to me that the best use the Jets can make of Wilkerson is to use him to trade up and get a player they really want in this draft. In my opinion, excluding Goff and Wentz which I'm fairly sure will go 1-2 (not sure it will be the Browns who will take Wentz if Goff is the Rams pick though... could it be us?), the only players I rank as top tier prospects are Ramsey, Jack, Bosa, Tunsil and Elliott (exclude Buckner for a moment). In a scenario where the Chargers are willing to take Wilkerson and our first (#20) to give us the 3rd pick in the draft who would you select?
Take Tunsil and have the O line shore up for the next 7 years (the young guys like qvale are developing as the dude we got from the broncos gets older) Take Jack and address probably our weakest overall position. Take Ramsey bc a D like ours relies on quality corners Tough call
IMO there's no question you take Tunsil. He's the consensus best player in the draft, and should be the safest. LT is one of the most important positions on a football team and on offense is second only to QB. Barring the Jets adding a southpaw QB, regardless of who plays QB for them will need his blindside protected. IMO a CB and ILB can't even compare, even as good and Jack and Ramsey are.
Myles Jack just because he's a freak and I would shore up the O-line in other ways but Tunsil would obviously be the smart and safe play
For all you people saying Tunsil, who's the last OT taken in the top 6 that lived up to expectations?
Below is a list of OTs taken in the top 6 since Brick was drafted: 2015: Brandon Scherff at 5 2014: Greg Robinson at 2, Jake Matthews at 6 2013: Eric Fisher at 1, Luke Joeckel at 2, Lane Johnson at 4 2012: Matt Kalil at 4 2011: no OT in top 6 2010: Trent Wiiliams at 4, Russel Okung at 6 2009: Jason Smith at 2, Andre Smith at 6 2008: Jake Long at 1 2007: Joe Thomas at 3, Levi Brown at 5
To make a move up the draft board that far will cost additional high picks in addition to Wilkerson if the Chargers are willing to make that deal. In my mind, you don't do that for any position other than QB.
all of those other guys were also "special players" leading up to their respective drafts i think all of the tackles coming out of college these days need major work ... i would pick a guy in the second or third that is considered raw but has all of the physical attributes before i picked a tackle at the top of the draft
So the answer to my question would be 2010, Trent Williams 5 disappointments and 2 players underwhelming later.
Fair enough but still, those players busting has absolutely nothing to do with tunsil. Last time we took a tackle in the top 5 it worked out pretty damn well
I think Tunsil is the best player in the draft, and probably the lowest risk. he also plays an extremely important position. doubt i would trade up for anyone but a QB. but in this hypothetical scenario, that would be my pick.
I'm pretty sure Goff will be a Ram and then Browns will take Ramsey. If Wentz is there at 3 I would roll the dice on him.. I do agree this might be our best option in getting value for Mo.. Sucks that it has come to this..
So really only 3 in the past 9 years? I would take Myles Jack if the Jets feel he will be 110% this year sometime. He's a complete difference maker on defense.
