Yeah, I can't go there. Pennington in 2002 was incredibly good, and had Super Bowl written all over him. Darnold has played one game, and while it was fine (especially for a debut), but it was hardly overwhelming. Pennington getting hurt was IMO by far the worst thing that happened to this franchise in its history - it didn't just cost a game (like the Gastineau penalty against Cleveland, for example), but cost them a potential decade.
I agree with the impact, and of course Darnold has only played one game, but from what I've seen he's the best "package" since Namath. But oh, if only Penny hadn't been hurt!
I agree with everything you said. Darnold looks like the real deal so far. We have to cross our fingers.
@bigbucks 24, And what is your point of just quoting my post? Nothing I have said changes. This doesn't mean we were going 16-0 and would never lose again LMAO. We lost a football game. As did half of the league. It's not the end of the world.
These are 2 quotes from your post. First of all, I have yet to see a Jets fan make any bold claims, just being super excited. Lastly, this is a FRANCHISE changing win. I don't think people understand this, from the outside looking in. This was more than a blowout. This was the start of an era, You don't see a contradiction?
No there is no contradiction. Bold claims = we're going 13 - 3, we're winning the division, maybe even the SB. Franchise changing win = a change in direction in the vibe in the organization. A culture shifting statement. Shifting mentality from let's not lose, to let's win. They are mutually exclusive.
