Watching the Two Bills documentary it mentioned that Dolan and Woody the two finalists to own the team after Hess died. Would the Jets be better off with Woody or Dolan?
Some nights, I have this nightmare that the Steinbrenner family decides to sell the Yankees, and Dolan buys them. This dream always causes me to wake up in a cold sweat. It never fails. As for the Jets, in my opinion, Dolan would have been as bad as Woody, if not worse. There's certainly no reason to suspect Dolan would have done any better than Woody.
As a Yankee fan, I'll admit that there are things Hal has done that I don't agree with, but he is a godsend compared to Dolan or Woody. The next owner of the Yankees can be worse.
The Knicks wouldn’t be such a joke if they had just half the success the Jets have had under Woody. Woody is a slap in the face; Dolan is a kick in the dick.
At least Woody's not cheap like the Mets owners. He just hasn't found the right people to run his franchise yet. Hopefully Mac and Bowles prove a lot of us wrong, because they're about to open up the wallet this off-season.
Yeah, New York/New Jersey really has the trifecta, doesn't it?: Dolan, Woody and the Wilpons. At the least the Jets have the best/least horrible of the three.
One thing about Dolan is that he is very competitive. I don’t believe he would have messed around with guys like McCagnan and Idzik in this era where the Pats are winning every other Super Bowl. HIs track record suggests that he would go after and catch the big fish in either the HC or GM role. Woody has never hired a HC or GM with any experience in those roles. With that said Dolan is such an unlikeable guy it’s probably a good thing that he’s not the Jets owner. He’d probably be another Dan Snyder type.
If Dolan bought the Jets, the Jets would be dead to me until he sold the team/died, same way I gave up on the Knicks (at the low point of the Isiah Thomas era). There's a level of terribleness in ownership beyond which there's no point even having hope. A certain kind of diehard fan can say to themselves "this team is guaranteed to fail for the next 10-20 years but I'll keep wasting my limited free time and $$ watching, supporting, and enriching them anyway"; vaya con dios. I don't know how Browns and Redskins fans do it (Mets too, probably, since the Wilpons are terrible, but at least they've won a pennant recently). Of course, Woody/the Jets might fit all of the above and I'm just in denial. Or maybe that's why I've felt less and less excited about football the last few years. ETA: we can shit on Dolan all we like, the Knicks are the most valuable NBA team, and 7th in the world, and make $140M in pure profit every year. The fuck does he care if they win or not.
