...the Cotchery story... FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Jerricho Cotchery wanted out, according to the New York Jets. He wanted out for some time, according to two sources. . . The final straw apparently was the Plaxico Burress signing, which happened last Sunday. At that point, the Jets gave Cotchery's agent permission to speak to teams about a potential trade, a league source said. . . Cotchery apparently grew weary of watching the team acquire other receivers. A year ago, it was Santonio Holmes. The classy Cotchery never complained publicly about being dropped to the No. 3 role, drawing praise from teammates and coaches for unselfishness. . . "He feels disrespected by the moves from the past two years, with the trades and being relegated to the third receiver," a player close to Cotchery said. "He wants a fresh start. I don't blame him one bit."
That's strange, in the Marshall thread somebody made it sound like players have no choice of where they get traded
He was with Rex for two years, '09, '10. They let him go after bringing in Burress and Mason, or one of them anyway. I distinctly remember Rex saying in a presser that they obliged his wish to leave.
I am a bit confused by the discussion here. I get that Cotch did not like the Holmes signing. I also get that Westoff did not like a number of moves Tanny made. But did Westoff ever criticize the Holmes signing?
tanny is doing to the dolphins exactly hat he did with the jets. he's bringing in tons of high priced talent or a big influx of talent and extending his QB prematurely...2 - 3 years it will unravel and they will point to the Suh and Tannehill contracts.
Cotch didn't want to be the 3 or 4 wr with the jets any longer. However, he did end being the 3 wr anyway in Pitt. The NFL is a business. It was sad to see him gone, but honestly in '11 before that horrific 3 game stretch to end the season we were 8-5 averaging 25 points a game without JC. Sanchez also had thrown 21TD's to only 11ints with his QBR being just over 50. http://espn.go.com/new-york/nfl/sto...chery-says-was-beneficial-leave-new-york-jets
I don't think it's as simple as he didn't want to be the #3. I think he felt the locker room was a disaster and didn't want to be here. Cotch was always a quiet guy who fit his role well and without making a fuss. When he stated he wanted out I think it took a lot of fans by surprise and probably the FO too. The circus was in full swing during that time and Cotch didn't want a part of it.
Man I'll never forget that game, I watched most of it on a flight from San Juan to Orlando (thank you Jet Blue) only to miss some of it getting off the plane and finding a bar only to see the run Holmes made in OT to win and jumping up and down and shit talking some Phins fans in the bar
I also think he threw his wife bus under the bus a bit, suggesting that she wanted out of NY too. Just something I recall, don't remember the whole side of that story. _
