Mac seems to be developing a trend of picking very young players in the first round and very old players in later rounds. Interesting.
Read this https://www.nfl.com/prospects/nathan-shepherd?id=32462018-0002-5598-92f8-36ce2fecd601 and then listen to this https://player.fm/series/draft-daily-pod/nathan-shepherd-with-trevor-sikkema-of-the-pewter-report Hey i have an idea lets try to not judge a guy we know nothing about and bash him just because we dont like thats hes slightly older Im ecstatic about this pick, 2nd Round Talent, this guy DOMINATED Senior Bowl practice, against Will Hernandez (NYG 2nd Round Pick) and Trent Cole Im usually not in favor of drafting older players but his story is unique and this guy is gonna be the best 3rd round pick we've had here in a while
Sometimes I think Macc tries to be the "smartest guy in the room" and outsmarts himself. I hope this isn't one of those times. Shepherd seems easy to root for, but he's going to have to deliver. Was he really the best guy available? There were no proven pass rushers or OL? Really? Like I said, I hope this is a time when Macc really IS the smartest guy in the room.
If you’re expecting a special player in the 3rd then you’re just asking to be upset by the pick. Star Lotulelei was drafted at age 24 and turned out pretty ok. And he was drafted in the first round.
To be fair. He was one of the top guys still available on several top guys boards. Admittedly I didn't do any film work this hear on FL prospects. The pick hit me very negative at first but the more I'm looking into him, the more I like this pick. I'm kind of excited to see what he can do. I like it overall.
Great story and I like the guy, but I have to ask the same question that came to mind with Hackenberg, was anybody going to take him this high also? I am convinced no one was going to take Hackenberg til about the 5th at most. Was this guy going to go in the 3rd round if we didnt pick him?
We got rid of a 1st round, probowl talent DL who refused to put in any effort, and replaced him with a D2 kid who worked in a factory to save enough money to play football in college in the US. I consider that a major upgrade.
NFL.com projected him to go in the 2nd round. 24/7 Sports had him 3rd. Cleveland.com had him 3rd. USA Today had him 2nd/3rd. DraftScout had him 2nd. You get the point. Where we took him isn’t even close to an issue.
