A guy with size, speed and power relative to his position but needs a lot of developing before he’s a starter.

You still haven't answered my question. Who? I can't think of anyone like that that Mac has drafted. Even so, it depends upon the position. 3-4 OLBs take 2-3 years to develop. That's a pretty well-known fact. That isn't true for other positions. Comparing apples to oranges doesn't make sense.

    Lack of
If Darnold busts we’re just the Jets of the last 40 plus years. No better no worse.

He’s the real deal so we’ll figure out the pass rusher eventually.

We got the biggest and most important piece of the puzzle.

Arden Key is a class one asshole. He’s going to be cell mates with Aldon Smith before he makes a pro bowl.

    He’s the perfect Raider.

Arden Key was a top 10 pick on nearly every draft board.

That he went 37th should tell you something.

Just for the record. I'm not in favor or against this, this just seemed like the most logical thought process behind his moves and wanted to know if it seemed likely to others.

I know the media loves to harp on how "the Jets really have to find a replacement for Mo Wilk" and we did, 3 years ago plus an upgrade (enter Big Cat). But no one on here including myself seems worried about DL depth. I think it has been seriously overstated and I do wonder if the degree of attention to it is merited. If this is true, and it does allow for Big Cat to single then it will be worth it.

I hope we draft OL before EDGE, all things being equal. Protecting the kid's blind side is paramount for me.

OMG if we can somehow find ourselves on the other end of a trade like we did this year. Go back a few spots and pick up three second-rounders? I'd be ecstatic.

If you think this years draft was DL heavy then just wait for next year, it's supposed to be one of the more stacked DL classes of all time, Mac is going to be like a kid in a candy store... I can't wait for us to pick some Big boy from Clemson and have to listen to the draft call of Mac gushing over how "he can't believe this player who will accumulate 1-2 sacks was still on the board"

Meanwhile we will pass on some good but not great enough o line talent before our pick in the third round where we take a project 26 year old run stopping linebacker from Kalamooza state Penitentiary.

Finally in the 4th we will snag another blocking tight end who put up 150 yards recieving and the occasional touchdown, we already have 6 of these on the roster but we only passed on 2 falling edge rushers and a couple of good wide receivers, no matter... Mac is sure they will be available in round 7.

Round 5 rolls around and the board is starting to look a bit more bare. Mac panics and takes his best DL on the board since you can never have enough depth. This player likely has some kind of stupid backstory

Round 6. Mac makes a random decent pick this time as he snags a OL who used to play with Darnold or some shit.

Round 7. Mac realizes those edge rushers and 1-2 high potential receivers that fell to round 4 are somehow not on the board! What could have happened to them?? Mac asks legendary coach Kacy Rodgers who he wants as a reward for finishing 31st in total defense in 2018. Kacy goes with a Safety because he knows that's worth 2 points.

If he ends up like Randy Gregory is it still a good pick?

Same people who bash us for not selecting Key will be the same ones bashing Mac for drafting a low character player.

This was a weak draft class for edge rushers but let’s just pick a bad one and have them end up like Lorenzo Mauldin. Would that satisfy the demand?

Like I said in other thread:

Great GMs pluck great edge rushers and stalwart OLs out of thin air, even despite weak draft class.

I don't know any great GM like that but I was told they do.

    ======================

So fire Mac? Obviously he doesn't fit the mold of this "Great Talent Evaluator" gig, right?
