I am lead to believe that the FO felt that the edge rushers available in draft by the time we got back on the clock was so poor that they just opted for "plan B".

Plan B: double down of DL to try to find anyone that can rotate the double teams off of Big Cat, allowing him to be our defacto pass rusher.

    Does this seem accurate?

It took them 40 years to figure out the most important position on the field, better settle in because they won't figure out the second most important position anytime soon.

Assuming they did figure it out.

If Darnold busts we are last year's Cleveland Browns with less talent and draft picks.

They went BPA. After Chubb, there weren't many decent edge rushers. Next year's edge rusher group is much deeper. I think they take WR or Edge, possibly left tackler, next year in the first round.

If that was their plan then they have no idea how to run a 3-4.

Good GMs pick the great edge rushers and stalwart OL out of thin air, despite the weak draft class.

I don’t know why lately I’m having a real hard time figuring out what is real and what’s complete trolling. Which one is this?

Thank god. But I’ve seen some real headscratchers here over the last few months, I really didn’t know if he was being serious. I’ve seen dumber posts that were.

There weren't really many edge prospects outside of the first couple rounds.

We passed on a very young Arden Key during the 3rd round. Eventually fell to Oakland Raiders later on in the 3rd. Arden Key out of LSU was the pass rushing talent i wanted there in the 3rd rd.

Because DT is the most important position in all of professional sports and it's impossible to find any run stuffing big men in the latter rounds or in free agency, they simply don't exist so Poor Mac is forced to have to scoop them all up in the early rounds.

Like can you imagine if we had taken Arden Key a pass rusher instead of a 25 year old D2 DT? This board would have exploded in anger!!

We draft on a Best Defensive Tackle available basis, it's the jet way

Nothing would bring me greater joy than drafting a defensive player with the first overall pick. This place would have a collective meltdown that’s just too good to pass up.

Yep. If we’re drafting Bosa. This admin is toast.

If I don’t have a shot as Bosa I’m trading down in the first to try to recoup my 2nd.

We HAVE to find a pass rusher. Ansah and Lawrence should be avail, doubt they get refranchised.

So I’m trying for pass rusher in FA and looking for OL and WR1 in draft

If Mac truly thought that, and you may be right that he did, then I think he should be fired. Have you ever seen Ogbo Okoronkwo play? I saw him play a number of times this season. He is a good football player. He has speed, quickness and power. He's just raw fundamentally, but the tools are there to work with and I think that Greene could have turned him into a topnotch pass rusher.

Many, if not most, OLB pass rushers take 2-3 years to develop. Its one of the most difficult positions to find good players. Mac evidently thinks he has to have one that's already playing at a pro bowl level, or he'll just settle for some guy who can set the edge at OLB and try to get the pass rush from the DL as Rex did.
