Some of his mistakes were inexcusable. 1) Going back when we were in field goal range 2) Fumbling at the goal line 3) Continuously running the ball without sliding He has to stop trying to do too much and think about the team. I'm not mad about the INT however. Especially since it wasn't a pick 6 and he didn't throw another INT for the rest of the game.
Obviously it is the O lines fault for allowing the penetration. That's not the point. Point is when that penetration occurs Geno can't just back up aimlessly and lose even more yards, knocking them out of FG range. ThT is entirely on Geno. Other than that I thought he played very well.
He definitely looks much better than last year. Other than the one terrible drop back to take us out of FG range he was clearly much, MUCH better in the pocket. He needs to cleanup the turnovers, but a nice week 1 performance and definitely something to build on.
Sometimes teams blitz more than guys you have in to block. Geno was simply too eager to try to make something out of nothing. It was a horrible mistake but its a coach able mistake and something to learn from. You also know Marty is going to be up his ass about sliding this week. He doesn't seem like a coach whose afraid to get on players about mistakes especially ones that are avoidable. I'm going to go back and re watch but overall he looked pretty good. I'll have my full analysis later on in the week.
While I think he improved overall, he seems to make mistakes as frequently as he did last season (ie Fumble, Int, sack that cost us points). ... The main difference between early last season and the close of last season was the fact that he sustains drives by running when necessary as opposed to trying to force stuff. His completion % is up but the WR targets have improved. It's still too early to tell if he made any strides in the off season to improve. Right now, it looks like the offense made some adjustments that make him look better.
Absolutely. Geno looked poised back there except on a few blitzes. He'll learn how to slide after he gets his bell rung a few times too. Looked for the most part like a Qb on the rise but still not quite there yet. Better than last year? Definetly. Elite? Not yet.
Fumble wasn't really a fumble seeing as his knee was clearly down first. Blown call by the refs. Pretty bad. Interception, defender made an amazing play. Came out of freaking nowhere. Receivers need to get open. O-line looked great. RBs looked great. Front 7 on defense looked great. DBs had their ups and downs.
The big ? is will this improvement continue and be noted against better NFL teams. The next 6 weeks will be a much better measuring stick for our QB.
Penalties and turn overs, they'll kill you every time. Thank GOD we played the Raiders. Still happy with Geno today despite 3 bonehead plays. I could see the confidence in the kid, he played loose.
Before the season we project stats So guys will say oh I expect him to thrown 13 picks But then when he throws one, which was just a great play on the ball by Woods on its an issue Geno even laughed it off because he knew it was a great play by Woodson
The "undoing" of so much hard and good work by Smith and the rest of the offense is unacceptable. I'm happy he's improved but this game should have been a blowout.
Completion percentage and YPA tend to mirror closely because the biggest negative factor in YPA is incompletions which are a zero. Geno played fairly well today. He needs to play better to be a plus for the team overall. Like last year he bounced back from adversity to finish things out well. It'd be nice to cut out the early adversity though.
The thing that really struck me about Geno today was how well built he is. He's got the build of a FB and he has a tendency to run downhill into people. He needs to stop doing that but I'm guessing he put more bruises on people than he took away today, which is exactly what a FB does.
