the news that he'll be back next year is great. My favorite player of all time and the best Jets player I've seen play sticks with the Jets for another year!!

I don't think it was ever a suprise that he would restructure or would be back, but I am glad you are happy. I think he and Cedric Houston will be a good 1-2 punch for whoever plays next year.

Once again Curtis puts the team ahead of himself. He might have lost it on the field but he will always be a class act on and off the field.

Please..... It ain't gonna happen Light. You may be a Martin fan, but please keep it real ok? If he's been extended AGAIN, what exactly does that do for the team? All that does is postpone the inevitable.

You want to live in the past? Be my guest. I'm with the youth movement..

Then without a paycut, explain the restructure?

The man is one of the most sefless players to ever play in the nfl. In today's society where money is everything its good to see Martin putting the team ahead of his lucrative contract. Basically just saying to the team and Jets fans I'm going to do anything I can ,including take less money, to give this team the best opportunity it has to compete and get back to winning. Astonishing.

Lets take another, less emotional look at this.. Curtis Martin can AFFORD to take a paycut to "help the team". Especially if its in the form of a rather long extension. Curtis Martin never has to work another day in his life ok? This isn't some gift to the Jets.

I smell EXTENSION here. I hope its a straight up paycut and that shouldn't be a problem right?

Yea i know, but you could always use a good locker room guy on a young team with a young coach. Oh yea and i think he's already extended through 09 therefore he would be retiring way before his contract is up.

We won't know that its "astonishing" until we see the "terms" will we?

Isn't that why we're signing all these ex-Jets as coaches in the first place? I thought Martin got extended thru '08 already. Add even 3 years to that and you're looking at Martin in a Jets uniform ON THE FIELD in the 2011 season. Not pretty man. We'd still take the hit if he retires before '09 anyway so, why extend??

 And you told me to keep it real. He won't be around any later than '07, nor should he. No matter how long he extended. I don't think you have to worry

No i think its great that he chose to do that he could have held out like other Jets on this team. Thats what is astonishing to me. I expect that from Martin.

So, we take the cap hit later as opposed to a year when we're rebuilding? Where's the logic in that? Martin retires before his contract is up? We get hit anyway.

There's more then enough youth on this team already. You HAVE to have some veteran leadership on a team, and with Kendall, Sowell, Fabini and probably Mawae leaving, that doesn't leave much veteran leadership on the offense. Who better to provide that veteran leadership then Curtis Martin? He'll have no more then 40% of the carries in all likelyhood, with the majority going to Brian Calhoun ( ) or Cedric Houston.

I'm all for keeping him around as a mentor and a game closer. I think it's a great move for everyone involved.
