on kffl it says that upshaw says if the new cba is passed the salary cap will go up to 102- 104 million. jeesh i hope it passes once we clean up some more of the fat and trade abe we could actually fill some holes with players mangini wants like a ashworth, david givens type player
Remember.... If the cap goes up, it goes up for EVERYONE. It will make good players less likely to change hands because their original teams can afford them. If it gets us just under the cap, then guess what, it gets the team that was already under 10-12M more free cash. We're still in a tough spot if they raise the cap 10M. Better? sure, but when it comes to competing with other teams, they'd still have a big advantage.
You can take it a step further and say that, without question, the cap will increase to that level. If you believe the recent CBA news out there, how the teams and the NFLPA define gross shared revenue in the CBA isn't the issue. That part is set. It will include all revenue, local and league-wide. The only issue is whether the owners actually, you know, share what they're calling "shared revenue" for CBA purposes.
Good question. If an extension were finished before free agency (which is what they're trying to do), you'd have to assume that the new cap figure would be available for the present free agent period. Otherwise, Gene Upshaw is acrewing his union members.
