Anyone? I might watch the first inning to see Jeter's at bat, but probably not much more than that. Geez, I remember as a kid how big the All Star Game used to be for me. Loved it and would watch evey innning. Even as a young adult into the late 80s when the Mets were good I'd still watch some of it. Favorite memory, my oldest daughter was born on July 12, 1988, the day of that All Star Game. That was the year that Straw and Doc and Carter and Cone were on the squad. She was born at 4:36 and by gametime she was all swadled up and I nestled her in the crook of my arm and watched the whole game with her by my sleeping wife's bedside. She just turned 26 and she's looking more and more like my wife every year. Bittersweet memory. _
I've lost interest in the sport mainly. Partly because it has become really tedious, games routinely close to 3.5 hours, the steroid era, the lack of true star power, inter league play, plus my Mets have sucked for so long they've almost singlehandedly pushed me away from the sport. When I was a kid I could name every stadium and tell you at least 5 guys from each team. Now I couldn't tell you 10 stadiums and some teams I couldn't name a single player. Football has far surpassed baseball in my fandom. _
I echo your sentiments Stokes. I'll always be a Mets fan but I can't bother to follow baseball anymore.
Time to get on my soap box and complain how an All Star Game somehow decides home field advantage in the World Series
loved how some jackass in the stands was in the middle of an "overrated" chant when Jeter was up and next thing you know its ripped into the corner. also love how Trout one upped him with that triple. Too bad Trout didnt play in the 80s or early 90s cause there's no doubt he would be the 1st 50/50 guy. Unreal talent.
Trout is the present and the future. Miggy had a historic last 2 years but he looks to be one hip injury away from making the Tigs look real foolish for that monster contract they gave him. Ask 100 people who'd they rather have right now and 95 would say Trout.
So wait, are we comparing them now? You pointed out how you like Trout one upping Jeter's double. I responded by saying I like Cabrera's 2 run dinger over Trout's 3 bagger. I never said anything about who I think is a better player; nor does that imply that I believe Cabrera has the better future.
Interesting when I met Fred Lynn a few months back he was very high on Trout but didn't consider him a complete ball player. Thought he was highly overrated as a defensive player. _
