The only real option is to start Petty on opening day. It appears he is progressing (albeit against backups but he's still looked good). He has prior game experience and the Jets have now invested a couple of years in him. Petty shows leadership out there and is always positive in his quotes and attitude. Not to mention he has a really good arm. I'm not ready to give up on this kid yet. Hack isn't ready and McCown is just spinning the wheels for no reason. Just one opinion.....
The good thing about not playing McCown this preseason is he'll play worse and make it harder for us to win games and lose the top pick.
well, i hate to burst your guys' bubble, but the bills are trying to tank also. and, they have more draft picks than we do in future drafts. unless we go 0-16, they might be able to trade up ahead of us in any round.
As bad as we're going to be, I still think we're not going to be in the Top 5 in draft picks this year. Time will tell, but like the other guy said, I think Petty needs to be the starter after the first 5 or 6 weeks. But yeah, let Mccown get knocked out, which is going to happen to a 38 year old QB with a patchwork O line.
I want McCopter to start the first several games until we get some semblance of clarity with the O-line. Let him be the crash test dummy while they tweak the lineup, then lets get Petty or Hack in there. Prior to preseason games being played I was of the mind to get Hack or Petty in there starting week 1 no matter what, sink or swim. After watching the O-line the past few games... not so much. Let the 1 year lease mentor earn his paycheck.
Really doubt Petty is ready to go week 1. It's possible but that knee needs 4-6 weeks to fully heal. Put him out before that and the knee could fold and his career is over. He deserves better.
McDip should start the first two games, with Hack coming in in the 4th period. Save Petty until his knee is fully recovered. He may well be our QB for the rest of the year and who know's after that.
If healthy, Petty should start opening day--he has earned it and McNown is NOT our future. Hack couldn't look off a safety if he tried. I don't want to jinx Petty though--Friday I posted a "Start McDougle" thread--two day later the jets moved him!
I would have liked to have seen more of McCown this preseason, or some of Bryce with the first (or second) teams. They need to go back to the 70's - six preseason games!
