None of this makes sense. Lee can play in a lot of linebacker roles. We said that earlier in this thread. Lee and Foster easily can play with one another on the field at the same time.
Which one sets the edge? Which one is the designated pass rusher? If either is in the middle and a guard engulfed them that is just asking for it. Teams will gash the Jets defense if tiny man linebacker is in the middle. If he is outside what do we do with Maudlin? If he is outside opposite what do we do with Jenkins? We do not have the luxury of wasting 1st round picks on specialist. That is not going to improve this defense nor the team. Until we get a QB this is a joke conversation. They won't stop anyone on defense and they won't score on offense. The defense has had all the love since 2009 its time to give the offense the same kind of attention. The only defenisve player that would be a major fit is CB. But its also the hardest position to judge and expect instant results.
If you are talking 4-3 then Foster is inside and Lee is on the outside. Your defensive ends rush the passer. Lee is in open space and can blitz at times. In a 3-4, they both play inside. Foster and Lee cover and run linebackers. Defensive line does its job it opens up more for the linebackers. I honestly don't prefer this setup. I would rather see them run a 4-3. Jets don't have a true pass rusher on the roster outside of Lorenzo and Jenkins.
