Exactly - Falcons tried very hard to give this game away with the rain-related miscues, but the Jets wouldn't take it.
The one thing that has been consistent with the team for the past three seasons, is for as well as they might play in the first half, in the second half the Head Coach and/or Offensive Coordinator decides to take the air out of the ball and no matter the opponent, the other team seemingly makes adjustments that the Jets either can't match or make. Yeah, the talent on the Jets may not be much better than mediocre - if that - but those teams that lead in the 1st Half and inevitably play conservative and blow the game in the 2nd Half are made up of the same personnel. Can anyone think of any game over the past three years where one thought to themselves in the 2nd Half either "Man, the Jets made some great halftime adjustments!," or "Wow, the Jets really put the pedal to the metal this half! Can't believe how aggressive they've been with the lead!"?
Bowels bitches that the team doesn't finish games, how come nobody bitches that the coaching staff doesn't either?
Yeah, he certainly threw the team under the bus in that press conference. I didn't hear one thing he said that was remotely "The coaches need to do a better job of setting the team up for victory."
Bowles has and continues to show how bad of a coach he is with a lead. Instead of putting his foot on the pedal, he coaches with any lead as if his defense is the 85 bears. Memo to this clueless head coach, your defense is not that good and you need to start taking any opportunity you have and cash in for more points. They give away so many drives with conservative playcalling and just expect this defense to not give up any second half points.
Whatever the case for Bowles making his players play hard, it doesn't surprise me that they are in just about every game. They could have easily beaten the Pats with 1 call going their way, and the Dolphins if the coaches had any semblance of making the right calls and adjustments and not let McCown blow the game for them. The real issue is who is held accountable for McCown still taking the snaps? I have to blame the Johnson's for this one. It's all facade. Trying to fool the fans into thinking this team is a playoff contender? They give 2 sh*ts about having a SB contender as long as they sell tickets. Jets will continue to be the laughing stock , disrespected franchise of the NFL thanks to Chris and Woody. Let the losing streak continue.
That makes Bowles less of a coach than this man; at least he addresses the responsible party as 'we' and he does mention 'the coaching staff did horrible job.' By the way, if Bowles said this during the press conference today, it would still be applicable to the game.
This team will lose games in the fourth quarter because the other teams have better talent at most positions. Simple, the longer the game goes the club with the better players will win unless there is a fluke play. The Jets lack talent. Remember they were supposed go 0-16. Playing hard is how coaches evaluate other coaches because they know there are no secrets in the NFL. If both teams play hard the better team will win.
That's because the coaches are never wrong. They make the gameplan, but its up to the players to execute. The Coaches don't have to adjust to playing conditions, the players have to execute better. Point being? In Todd's world, the coaches are always right.
No surprise, the supposed feel-good atmosphere in the Jets locker room is already starting to splinter. Matt Forte, he of the 4 carries for 7 yards, ripped into Morton for not running the ball enough when the Jets had the lead. You know, the running game that averaged 1.95 yards per rush today and is probably the worst in the league. http://nypost.com/2017/10/29/matt-forte-rips-jets-coach-for-using-the-right-game-plan/ Halfway through the season and the coaches are already losing the locker room. Yeah, that sounds about right.
I loved Forte as a Bear..think we all did, but the fact that we couldn't run anywhere was not Morton's fault. I was at the stadium and all we saw was The Line stacked ALL Game. They were stopping the run PERIOD. Our O-Line was absolute garbage because their DLine and LB were blowing plays up at the point of attack. Unless you had the 90's Cowboys O-Line out there we weren't running shit! Funny, Faneca was at the game ...he probably could have suited up and done better. They were horrible.
