Not going to comment on the reporter that did this mock. https://www.si.com/nfl/2018/12/19/n...herbert-nick-bosa-dwayne-haskins-daniel-jones 3. N.Y. Jets: Rashan Gary, DL, Michigan Gary has as much raw talent as any player in this draft and the ability to play the edge or inside, which has pushed him into the top three of our mock. His combination of size and athleticism makes him a difficult matchup because he can win with strength or he can win with his athleticism.
He can play edge? Take him. Get a pass rush and the message board angst of taking a d lineman? Might as well just send me a stripper and an 8 ball.
Hell No! I've been watching Gary since his days at Paramus Catholic. Good player but not an NFL edge rusher. More like a bull rusher interior lineman. Not even close to the explosive edge guy we need. Pass.
Montez Sweat, Brian Burns, Clelin Ferrel and Josh Allen are all much better EDGE players than Gary IMO. This would be a crime at number 3
I haven’t seen enough of Allen. Would he be a good fit? Alarm bells always sound in my head when I hear the word “versatile” - which appears to be the most common word on his pre-draft reports. EDIT: I’ve just seen Joe’s post on the other thread.
I think he'd be a great fit. Explosive pass rusher who added a good amount of weight throughout his NCAA days. He can drop into zone and has improved his anchor to set the edge but is still only ok there. As a run defender he is better at beating blocks with speed and make plays in the backfield as opposed to taking on a lineman head up. Gary I think would be a good option for a team looking for a 3T. He is not a 34 edge guy though.
We need to get a passrusher and put an end to this drought of over 10 years without a legit terror coming off the edge.
Hes a tweener. Not explosive enough off the edge & doesnt have the body type to hold up inside. Hes quinton coples w better strength but w.o the bend.
