Darnold’s best trait in my opinion is his awareness. He has a natural ability to read the field and let the play develop while he goes through his progressions. He has ideal measurables, arm talent and athletic ability as well. He reminds me of a hybrid between Andrew Luck and Carson Wentz.
Anyone care to bet how long will it be before the outcry from the fans becomes unbearable and the " Play Sam now" billboards begin to surface. Are we willing to be patient and give him one season? Stongly doubt it
Mac was on sports radio this week and brought up the fact that they still have the 1st next year plus a ton of free agent money. I’m thinking the Jets will do what the bears did this off season next offseason.
His play style reminds me a lot of Rodgers the way he moves in and out of the pocket. The trait I like best is his calmness and ability to come through in clutch situations. The kid seems to rise to the occasion when the pressure is on. Still hard to believe he is property of our Jets.
I want to say that third video is my favorite throw of his but I remember he was rolling right and the throw was to the back of the endzone and the receiver was going to the ground and the pass was just out of the reach of the DB. Just a perfect throw into the tightest window.
Marino was one of the best ever... he couldn't run worth a lick but he could adjust ever do subtly in the pocket avoid the sack and let it loose.
Darnold will be the first truly athletic quarterback, I'm blocking the five minutes that Vick played for us, the Jets have ever had. All of the other QBs that have had success for us: Namath, Todd, O'Brien, Pennington, were all sort of statuesque pocket passers. In fact, please correct me if I'm wrong, but Vinny T may have been the most athletic quarterback we've started, and he was in his late thirties when we signed him.
I recommend people to listen to the move the sticks podcast, they have a 360 episode on just Sam darnold from before the draft and talk to a few people including Sam himself. Interesting point. Jordan Palmer who's training Sam and Josh Rosen believes ALL rookie qbs should have the chance to sit and learn the first year. However he does point out that it's his job to make sure they can play now. Sent from my SM-G610Y using Tapatalk
For whatever it's worth, the NFL Network has this feature "Soul and Science" where these two guys (one of them is Trent Dilfer) wire up a QB to take measurements of the important mechanics. In this episode on Sam Darnold, aired after the Jets drafted him, they measured his speed releasing the ball and his ability to turn his shoulders (and torso) to make throws on the run. They said both these abilities were as good or better than any QB they have measured so far. They also said his accuracy throwing on the run was excellent. http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-netwo...old-showcases-an-incredibly-explosive-release
