Career 94-66 record. 5 playoff appearances in 10 years. 6 playoff wins. 2 NFC Championship games 1 SB championship. If that doesn't make you happy I don't know what will.
Why not, seriously? And I don't understand what Saints wanting to unload him has to do with your decision to bring him in.
Not 1st... how about 2nd? Jets fans bitch about teams inability to pick anything decent for years. So there you are: use this otherwise useless 2nf on Payton.
Outside of 1st next year, which Jets pick gives you more confidence in improving the team as trading it for proven HC would?
He is lightyears better than any coach we have had in 2 decades,,,,,and if we were able to win 1 freaking Super Bowl with him or any of these other Piachos that Woddy has hired I could die a Happy man !
There's nothing at all silly about it. History and facts prove me right. Rookie HCs have to learn on the job. They have to learn how to schedule practices, TC, and a whole host of things they've never done before. They don't know how to build a team, and often don't know how to develop young players. Experienced coaches have been there done that. Their regimens are established. They are free to focus on things that rookie HCs can only dream about. Parcells, Kotite and Weeb were the only experienced NFL HCs that the Jets have ever had. Holtz was a successful collegiate HC, but a joke as the Jets' HC. The rest were all coordinators or position coaches. It's not a coincidence that most of the Jets history has been awful, that there has been a revolving coaching carousel, and there has been little stability. It's because of all the first-time HCs. The insanity has to stop! The Jets need to finally do things the right way and quit trying to catch lightning in a bottle or trying to be smarter than every other team.
No to Brees. The last thing the Jets need to do is tie up a huge chunk of their cap in an older QB who has played most of his career in a dome.
Payton has gone 7-9 with Drew Brees at QB in 4 out of the last 5 years. Does he sound like the kind of guy who is going to fix the Jets offense and get them over the top? It's usually a mistake to hire a head coach on the wrong side of 50 who already has a ring. They've already proven themselves and they generally will not go where they need to go to get over the top in a new city at that point in their careers. Weeb Ewbank was an exception but Weeb Ewbank was also one of the greatest coaches of all time.
He does sound like the guy to improve our offence, but it is the defence that makes them go 7-9, hopefully if he came here we will choose a good DC to work with him
He has Drew Brees at QB and he hasn't made the playoffs in 5 years and you want to bring him here?I'd take him over Bowles but that isn't saying much
Everything is a gamble guys ..short of getting BB Andy Reid ..even Mike Tomlin (who I don't like but respect) it's questionable for hiring the right HC So in my opinion Peyton is a nice name to START a discussion since he obvious is offensive and won a SB I see us perhaps getting a really good innovative College coach like a Harbaugh Or you try to lure an old timer like Gruden Cowher or Jimmie Johnson While you are at it keep MM only if he keeps getting swaps like Richardson /Kearst Otherwise find out about Charlie Casserly or Ron Wolf
Like perhaps where they live, what time they leave their homes, do they travel the same route everyday to work, what kinda vehicles do they drive.... Would love to repay them for their assistance in bringing us Casserly's handpicked choice for GM.
